“I love how we’re saying it could be fucked up already. We’re both so positive,” he smiled back at her. “So… I can arrange something proper like that? I think we’ll be okay.”

“I am a pessimist, you know that about me. I’m like that paramore song.” She smiled down at her steering wheel. “You can arrange whatever you want as long as it’s not weird. And yes... i think we’ll be fine.”

“I don’t know, where are we going to go have the drink? Cause it could be fucked up.” She smiled at him. “That is pushing it... but i reckon i can spend that long with you without killing you. We have a good track record.”

“I will refer to myself as daddy,” he grinned, knowing it would wind her up. “Okay, that is a deal I can work with. I will just have to make sure it doesn’t go badly.”

“Daddy Holden.” She nudged his arm. “Now you seem pretty sure of yourself there, i’ll try not to fuck it up.” She rubbed her lips together. “You’re actually going to plan it?” 

“Don’t make that a thing.” She laughed shaking her head. “Life... is going well and we do get on.” She weighed the idea up in her own head for a moment. “Okay a drink but if it goes badly, we never talk about it again.”

“Okay daddy.” She folded her arms, looking as she drove. “Uh... yeah ti’s easy. but you don’t mean... a friend drink do you. You mean drink drink?”

“I was born old. Facts,” he laughed, looking over at her. “Ems, it’s definitely not true,” he said, keeping his eyes on her. He knew how he felt, he loved her.

“You are and i was also, it is why we are still friends.” She gave him a  sad smile. “Hey, we both know that i guess... boy girl friendships are easy right?” 

“You were born to be an old man my friend.” She squeezed his shoulder. “Yeah... it didn’t come out great. And it’s definitely not true. Right?” 

“It’s a saying Hold. Sick. It means like, that’s cool.” She couldn’t help but laugh as she got in the driver’s seat. “Yeah... i think most people assumed we were eachother’s back up plan.”

“Okay, so I don’t always get the context right,” he laughed, pushing her arm gently. “Okay fair point, I can see why someone would think that.”

“That’s sick.” She joked. “yeah like if i had a nickel for every time someone assumed we were a couple i’d be a rich woman.” 

“They love it ‘cause we usually say it slightly wrong and they laugh,” he shook his head before giving her a smile. “Oh totally full of shit. Where would she get that idea?” His eyes glanced up, flicking over her face.

“No, you say things slightly wrong.” She grinned, fishing for her car keys as he spoke. “probably because as teens we spent nearly every evening together.”

“They love it when you try to get down on their level.” She laughed slightly, rubbing her lips together. “Uh... yeah she said the same to me once. Weird. She’s always been full of shit.” 

“Oh they would so think you’re cool then. That will definitely earn you street cred.” She rolled her eyes. “Charming, all the time. Blushing, some of the time.” 

“Oh scout? That’s a one you haven’t used in a while,” he laughed a little, shoving his keys into his pocket. “Aw, now you know how to make me smile.”

“i just think it suits you, super scout.” She laughed to herself. “I just like making you blush. I’m a charmer.” 

“I know lots of things about you scout.” She put her hands on her hips, leaning on her car. “I would always go with the later, because it’ usually the case.”

“And the sad fact is, I know that.” She laughed, rubbing her lips together. “No day is normal with you. You’re an extraordinary kind of guy.” 

“Ah the whole school knowing your deepest darkest secrets, high school flashbacks.” She laughed, looking back at him. “Don’t i know it. It’s you.”
