The contrast between these two dances!! They both lead Angel in a dance but it's night and day:

Angel's Dance with Valentino

Angel doesn't have a choice in dancing with Val. It's purely for work

You see these moments of discomfort and worry but Angel quickly puts on a mask. It's choreographed and things are prettied up (just the environment and angel's outfit) it's very artificial all the way around for this spectacle/performance

Valentino isn’t just leading, but quite literally is dragging him on a chain

Val’s also not really dancing with Angel, it's closer to Angel doing a performance for Val's entertainment. There's no real connection between them beyond the chains

It's starts more as a small offer to dance, very old time-y gentleman at some formal dance kinda thing

It's this goofy, little spur of the moment kinda of thing just for them. The dancing is a little awkward and imperfect but they're having fun and just a nice moment together.

Anna and the French Kiss! I forgot about that book! I meant to read that years ago when it came out but was too busy with school. Bumping up to toward the top of my list! Thanks I’ll check these out!

Read Anna before you read Lola! Same goes for If I Stay before Where She Went! If I Stay is being turned into a movie and is coming out in August. You may have a hard time finding it at your local library right now. It is at mine…I was rec'ing this book two years ago to these people and only NOW do they want to read it just because it’s an upcoming movie.

Also, Stephanie Perkins is coming out with a third one called Isla and the Happily Ever After.

I was gone ALL day yesterday so I didn’t get to this until now. I’m a librarian so I think I might have a recommendation or two :)

Okay but Konstantin shouting at Villanelle

Like, hello, a big aspect of Cluster B personality disorders is genetic predisposition. Villanelle said herself that her mother is like her, all she wanted was her mother to recognize that. It follows that Konstantin statement also encompasses Villanelle's personhood. She's not evil, she's just "insane".

Personality Disorders carry SO much social stigma; BPD was considered the "wastebin" diagnosis up until 1938-ish when Adolph Stern was the first to coin the term and it's symptoms. Konstantin seperating the concept of evil from "insanity", or in more appropriate terms, mental health disorders, is a way of slowly deconstructing our view of Villanelle as irredeemable.

Eve follows on this thought process when she responds to Dasha's "she's a perfect killing machine, it's all she knows" with "I don't think so" without missing a single beat.

Villanelle might be an assassin as a product of her trauma, disorders, and manipulation she has experienced from those around her who have used her abilities to push their own agendas but that doesn't make her irredeemable. Not if she actively wants and puts the effort into changing. Of course, she's not just going to step into a therapist' office, change her problematic coping mechanism and be done with it, because that's not how people work. Her actively expressing "I don't want to do this anymore", not just to herself, but to Dasha, her mentor, is a huge step into what therapists would consider recovery.

Evil is a concept we associate with depravity, wickedness, and immorality. Something beyond help or salvation; something hopeless.

Insanity (thought not a term that's used as often in psychology anymore due to stigma) is a state of mental delusion caused by mental disorders which may affect outward behavior.

One is redeemable, one is not a choice, one grants a person three-dimensionality; they are more than their diagnosis, they are a person.
