Here is a place where you can submit all of your Emma thoughts, feelings, and wishes about Emma Approved. *Note: This is only an Emma Approved blog, so we do not post submissions from any of the Emma movies. *The owner of this blog is not associated with the cast or crew. (but hey, if they would take me, I'd be thrilled!)*
It’s been a while and I hope you’re all doing okay. I haven’t posted in here in a WHILE due to lack of involvement in webseries and obviously Emma is completed! However, since everyone is in quarantine, this is probably a good time to binge Emma Approved! I binged the Lizzie Bennet Diaries last week and am currently on season 3 of Parks and Recreation.
Anyways, just wanted to reach out and tell you all that I’m here for you if you want to vent or if you’re going crazy in your house. I am a meal delivery hostess in a hospital in California, so I know how traumatic this whole situation can be. However, I can assure you that we’re all taking strong precautions and being extremely thorough to keep you all safe. You’re in good hands!
It’s never too late to submit confessions. I’m sure I still have all my photo files somewhere ;)

Last year, I started preparing everything for the LIW 2018, very motivated to get this done early in the year.
I questioned a few of LIW creators about the awards, as I had noticed criticism in the past and I wanted to make sure they were happy with the way it was done. Suggestions I got was:
1) Instead of asking the voters to name an actor/director… for a category, they wanted each LIW creators to name the person they wanted to present for each award. So I needed to contact every single LIW creator, and ask to name a person for each category, such as actor, actress, transmedia, etc.
2) LIW creators questioned about the awards wanted to have different type of awards, one for LIWs with small budgets and one for webseries with bigger budgets. 5,000€ was the limit that was decided. Their argument was that smaller webseries could never get an award, because it was a low budget webseries with a small audience. Although Low-budget webseries got awards in the past, and big giant high budget webseries didn’t get awards in the past. There are plenty of examples. But they wanted to have two categories to have more chances to win.
So I went to contact every LIW creator of a LIW which aired in 2017. It took me 2 to 3 months to get answers from all of them.
For 1) I ended up with a giant list of names for each category, which would have been impossible for any voter to go through, while voting. My conclusion was that making the voter name whoever they wanted, as I did in 2015, 2016 and 2017, is actually a better and manageable way to do the LIW awards.
For 2), I ended up having only 1 web series which aired in 2017 with a budget > 5,000 €. So it didn’t make any sense to have two types of awards.
I had tried to please everybody, did a lot of work to end up in the same place than 3 months earlier. By the time I realized that I should have done it my own way, the way I had done for 3 years, it was June. I was then facing some mental health issues and juggling with two jobs, having no time for anything else that work and sleep (and cry). Which is still the case to be honest. I am at a stage where I don’t even know what is going on in the LIW universe, as you don’t see me on social media anymore, which sadden me very much as I built strong links with many of you. But that is how it is.
Therefore, there has been no LIW awards in 2018, and most likely no LIW awards in 2019.
Shoutout to @literarywebseriescenter, they work so hard for us <3
I too have been out of touch with LIW series, but I hope ya’ll are still watching~
The last one I saw was the obvious Emma Approved revival, which was ~interesting~. Now that I’ve graduated university (class of 2019!) I can probably try to dive into them again!
I went to Emma on Board and met the cast of Emma Approved!
~details and pictures below~
So in case you guys didn’t know, Emma on Board was the title and theme of the Jane Austen North America Society meetup, and the southwest region met on the beautiful Queen Mary (a very famous boat) to listen to lectures and enjoy a very fancy meal.
I was the youngest there as far as I could tell (I’m 19) and the average person there was female too and roughly 50-70 years old. We listened to speeches about women on boats in that time period (did you know that prostitution in ports was encouraged to prevent the men from engaging in homosexuality during the months that they were on board?) and the importance of Miss Bates (the lecture was by Lynda Hall and I’d totally recommend that you google her, she’s an amazing speaker).
Anyways, I was seated in the far middle right table and right as our soup was being served, I turned around and saw James Brent Isaacs being seated at the table behind me! I saw Bernie being seated too and waved quickly at him, and I turned back around real quick, blushing red and freaking out to the wonderful ladies who were seated next to me. It was so amazing and flustering to know that the wonderful cast of Emma Approved was seated right behind me!
Bernie stood at the podium in the lecture hall, while Joanna, Brent, Dayeanne, and JBI (in that order) were seated at a table across the stage. They showed a quick video explaining the transmedia aspect and general idea of Emma Approved- it was amazing to see how the audience was reacting to it, since most of them don’t watch youtube so it was their first time really being exposed to webseries(s).
Anyways, down to the nitty gritty, I took a lot of notes on the presentation so here they are!
-Bernie asked the cast about what they thought of Alexis (Annie) and Joanna lit up and said, “she’s literally Annie Taylor”, and Bernie told the audience that all of the baked goods on Annie Taylor’s social media accounts were baked by Alexis herself
-Joanna bought a clutch that looks like a cover of Emma- custom made in black and gold- from an etsy shop and brought it to the event! It was super cute and everyone adored it.
- Joanna believed the series was as true to what Jane Austen wanted, “Emma is just as stubborn and unlikable”
-Bernie has no plans for more classic work as of now, but he did acquire rights for 4 Young Author books, so “we’ll see”... ;)
- JBI auditioned for Wickham and other leading men, and they kept calling him back to audition for other male parts, and he was really honored to feel believed in by Pemberley Digital. When he finally got the part of B-Mart, he laughed and said, “it’s about time.” (the audience laughed a lot at that)
-Paul Stewart (Senator Elton) didn’t regret not getting the part of Darcy (which he originally auditioned for), he said “Playing Elton was so much more fun”. Everyone reiterated that he was such a sweetie to work with.
Then we reached the Q&A
Question: How did you react when Emma first premiered?
-Joanna: a bit concerned about how the audiences would react to an Asian American Emma, since Emma is usually portrayed as a blond british american. However, she was happy to see people welcomed the diversity- even demanded it.
Dayeanne- Excited!
Brent- A bit nervous, but he knew he just went to have fun, so he didn’t sweat the critics.
James- His first day was actually the first day the episodes premiered, so he was a bit nervous that the cast would have already formed cliques. However, his most vivid memory is Joanna being so nice and kind to him on his first day and welcoming him in!
Question: Are there any plans for an Emma Approved book?
Bernie: Unfortunately the book sales for the diaries of Lydia and Lizzie didn’t do as well as the publishers had hoped, so there are no plans for that right now.
Question (my question): What was your favorite storyline/social media aspect of Emma Approved?
Joanna: Joanna loved Twitter and her favorite storyline was Boxx Hill because you could see it really turned Emma’s world around.
Dayeanne: Dayeanne loved the music aspect of Emma Approved and loved the response to it. Her favorite storyline was the Elton storyline because she loved the awkwardness of it.
James: James loved commenting on every video- the fan reactions were great. He screenshotted a comment where a fan theorized that his hairstyle changed from the first episode because his personality changed. ”But that wasn’t true at all!” He laughed. His favorite storyline was the crane drop. He was adament when they were writing the resolution that Bobby got to kiss Harriet. “I don’t care, I just want to kiss her! I don’t want to be the only Pemberley guy who doesn’t get to kiss the girl.”
Brent: Much to my surprise, Brent liked the tumblr part of the transmedia. He liked the gifs (or as he pronounced it, G-Fs). His favorite storyline was when Knightley gave Emma flowers, and joked about the first time that Knightley gave Emma flowers and she disregarded it.
Question: If you could see a modern adaption of a classic, which would you want?
Brent: Brent is actually working on a movie called Midsummer Wine Dream, which is a modern adaption of Midsummer Night’s Dream. That’s coming out next year so look out for it!
James: Would LOVE Persuasion! He wants to see Anne as the most popular girl in high school back in the high school days, now the years have passed and she’s still at home and trying to plan the big high school reunion. She sees a guy she rejected back in high school, he’s super famous/rich and she regrets rejecting him. He also wants to see a female 3 Musketeers where the 3 are on a fencing team.
Joanna: Would love to see To Kill a Mockingbird or Calvin and Hobbes (she would be Hobbes)
Dayeanne: Would like to see fairytales with a realistic spin. “Oh, I didn’t get the prince, oh well.”
Afterwards, they went to the back to meet the fans. I got the chance to talk to them all and take pictures! They’re all so lovely, honestly, I hope you all get the chance to meet them someday!
(the presentation, they only played a few seconds worth of clips from the first episode)
There I am with the crew, they’re all so great I cry (also they’re hella tall)
THE PICTURE IS BLURRY BECAUSE I WAS SHAKING BECAUSE THEY’RE ALL SO GORGEOUS I’M SORRY LOL
They signed my program, I keep staring at it, it’s so beautiful
So that was my wonderful time at the JASNA event! I encourage everyone to get involved with their local Jane Austen groups. If you need help finding them, let me know! :)
Are there any Pemberley Digital fans going to Emma On Board?
If you are going to the JASNA Southwest Spring Meeting 2016-Emma on Board, please message me! I would like to meet PD fans beforehand and maybe even get to know some of you guys online before we meet IRL! I know seeing a familiar face (or URL) in a big event like this would be so much more comfortable than finding out later in the evening. Please and thank you!

"I want a season 2 of Emma Approved so badly! My theory for the delay is that Pemberley Digital is still assessing how much the fans want it. i mean, the views aren't as explosive as LBD's, so production costs have to be considered and they have to test the waters. But I sure hope they decide to continue it. It's just too beautiful to be left just like that"
