About Emlyn

Emlyn is a survivor. She survived a toxic family life, she survived a stalker of a neighbor. She survived her father trying to arrange her to be married to said neighbor. She survived lies, and family secrets. Emlyn survived, got married, and had two kids.

Her early childhood is a bit of a fog now, but she remembers a brief time where she and her mother were close. Some early memories were learning how to cook and speak Hungarian. She spent a few seasonal trips in dad’s native country of Hungary but the early years were a blur. Aside from those few memories she remembers vividly the first instance of her father’s anger. She remembers her mother slowly withdrawing from it all and becoming an outsider in her own home.

Emlyn remembers the summer she met Dominik. The day liked to play video style in her mind, whenever it felt like it. Her life went to hell the moment Dominik existed in her life. He wouldn’t leave her alone from age five until Emlyn was well into her thirties. And her father preferred his family’s happiness, as did their town, over anyone else. They were rich, but they always seemed to be in debt to him. Or so it seemed. Emlyn never found out a real reason why before her father passed in his old age.

As her world caved in around her, Emlyn started running away and coping any way she could. They would have her hospitalized on some occasions to save their ‘reputation’ and any attempts to intervene were quickly swept under the rug. For a short time Emlyn spent a summer living with her grandparents in Hungary. Her dad initially had no desire to take her back but Dominik inserted himself and by the fall she was home. Emlyn was stuck in a family that hated her and they had all the money to make complaints disappear. The only good thing during this time was meeting Eiri Matsumoto. The only child she met who didn’t judge her or was scared off by Dominik’s ever growing presence in her life. He was a loner too, didn’t talk much but eventually the two opened up to each other.

Dominik scared off friends, romantic interests, and in general any one who tried to get close to her. Except Eiri. He stayed. With Eiri in her life Emlyn had a place to go, she didn’t have to run away and get lost while trying to escape West Brownsville. She could run to him.

It all ended when a massive blow up due to the arranged marriage turned almost deadly, Nina took her younger sister into her college apartment for a few years. She remained there, finished high school and took some classes in photography. Eiri graduated medical school and became a doctor, they got engaged and married as soon as they could. Dominik seemed to disappear as Emlyn reclaimed her life. She had been in therapy since moving in with Nina and kept with it all through her adult life.

Emlyn and Eiri moved to Portland Oregon to get as far away from her hometown and the stigma that followed them, Nina followed suit and moved to Chicago with her long-term boyfriend. She opened up her own business and quickly settled into her new role as boss when she became pregnant with twins. A thought that petrified her because she feared having children in general. Eiri supported her no matter what decision she made and in the end, she decided to become a mom. She questioned that decision all the way until their birth and long after as well.

The Matsumoto’s took a trip to Vancouver one winter, with Nina and her husband. Emlyn had been feeling weird in the weeks leading up to it and her doctor upped a medicine to help with the paranoia as she was convinced she was being stalked with no real proof, just feelings.

She would return home from that trip and swore her house smelled different. Eiri didn’t notice anything and neither did Nina. Emlyn was about to accept this was just her life now when one day after work she came face to face with Dominik. He would take her without much of a scene because he threatened her children.

Emlyn suffered with him for a week. Of all the low things, the lowest moment for her was when Dominik took her ring and threw it in the snowy Colorado mountains. He claimed they were married now and she would never see Eiri again. He wasn’t one for empty threats, but days into her captivity she tried to run. She almost made it to safety, but her ankle had been messed up since the start.

It would be Dominik’s ex-wife that led to Emlyn’s rescue. She would finally find the rental house he had kept a secret and tip off police. He was arrested and would be spending the rest of his life a felon behind bars. In the search to find Emlyn and Dominik, Nina would reach out to her parents for help (before her father passed) neither were of any use except their mother revealed Emlyn is the product of an affair. They didn’t know at the time it was a dead end.
