THIS is exactly what we should’ve gotten in s5 and not the crap we got. Instead of the memory loss that didn’t amount to anything because Stefan went right back to being the DE cheerleader instead of staying disgusted by what they did/were. s5 could’ve been SE falling in love all over again. It’s pretty sad that fic writers can come up with better s/l. I think people sometimes confuse DE sex scenes as more passionate than SE because of the ripped clothes. But that’s all DE had which in part is why so many people got bored from those scenes it was redundant. They fight, call their relationship toxic and then one of them would tear a shirt off. Thanks, anon! I am so so glad you liked the fic and that I did my job in showing the passion and intensity between Stefan and Elena because that was really what this section of the series was about — illustrating the extent to which these people love each other and how it manifests into a physical connection and as I said to another reader, what I wrote I could write because it’s actually all already there in the SE scenes on the show, the writers just chose to ignore it or cut it short in favour of DE.

And speaking of DE and sex. OK. Sorry, this might turn out to be a long answer, I can feel it now. I have a post explaining what’s wrong with DE and sex and it basically explains (the way I see it) that their sex doesn’t actually mean anything. Lots of shows have couples in which sex is kind of what they do — Chuck/Blair, Charlotte/Cooper, Olivia/Fitz, Jamie/Claire (to an extent) but the difference is that their sex is a bridge to each other, they connect in those moments, they communicate in those moments, it’s how they speak to each other even if it’s the dirtiest, raunchiest type of sex, it’s a statement of where they are in their relationship but DE doesn’t do that so when they had sex it was like … but why? Of course sex is something to be had just to be had, it’s sex, but when a show makes sex THE thing a couple does, when the premise of a relationship is that it’s fiery and sultry and physical and everything else stems from that, then the sex HAS to mean something at least once in a while and I didn’t get that with Delena so their relationship just really seemed to empty.

But that’s not even what I wanted to say, what I wanted to say, the other problem with Delena is that their sex is kinda boring and hella basic. Like you said people mislabel what they had/did as passion/passionate because Elena would rip off his shirt but like you also said, that’s ALL she did and it got redundant. I will give them their first sex scene, their first sex scene was basically Elena wanted to get it in like NOW, which fine but the thing with Stelena that I didn’t feel like Delena could really capture was that Stefan and Elena have this *need* to touch each other, like I HAVE to be touching you right this instant:

and even in comparison with delena.

When Stefan puts his hand on Elena’s, her fingers naturally entwine with his and closes on his knuckles because she has to touch him as much as she can too.

Delena (she’s letting it happen and sure she’s enjoying it even though I think that’s a pretty awkward face but whatevs, still it’s not as in sync):

And even with the epic ripping of the shirt. It actually looks pretty mechanical and unnecessary:

But when Elena rushes to take off Stefan’s shirt, she immediately kisses his chest, it’s this we need to be touching, skin-to-skin now:

And when Stefan and Elena are together, it escalates to a point of lust embedded in affection and Elena is actually a fiercer lover with Stefan than she is with Damon:

This is the most vampiric we see Elena during sex/a makeout. She and Damon can speed throughout the living room, fine, and she can leave scratch marks on his back (so can any human) but I think it says something that she bares her fangs here because it’s like Stefan calls her to baser nature. Like how she did to him:

Also, when Elena slams Stefan on the bed, she kisses him immediately, feverishly, always has to b touching:

and Stefan and Elena take the time to actually revel in how much they turn each other on:

Also, we see when Elena takes control with Stefan, we see when she turns over or takes off her shirt or just takes the lead in general whereas with DEx scenes, the camera just cuts away:
