Girl to Girl // Marlene & Lily Para
Marlene crossed her arms and raised her eyebrows as she listened to her friend go on and on about the subject of their conversation. "Since when have you gotten so cozy to Black, huh? You used to think he was an arrogant prat not even a year ago and now you're defending him? If I didn't know better I would say /you/ were the one, who fancied him", she replied and rolled her eyes at how Lily had ranted of what a great guy he was and whatnot.
"And what the hell are you on about, Lily?! Fancying each other?! I just told you that I certainly do not fancy Sirius Black, but even if I did, you know him and he doesn't do fancying. But that is not even the point here, okay?" Marlene told her, getting rather annoyed at how her best friend wouldn't even listen to what she told her. "I... yes, I snogged him, but that's not everything that happened, okay? There's a lot more and it just confuses me, that's why I bother with this bullshit", she told her, not really having wanted to talk about it, but now she didn't seem to have a choice. "Yes, James might not like it or he might do, but that's not really the point... Sirius and I snogged, but it didn't end there. We snogged, then I yelled at him and walked away to snog some Ravenclaw until he suddenly pulled me away and I yelled at him some more until we were fighting and I ended up telling him he was just like his family. He ran off, I followed him, we snogged some more, but when I told him I wasn't going to shag him, we actually... We talked. As I just don't know how to react towards him now. I mean, we haven't been friends before, I don't fancy him, by Merlin's pants, no, but... What do I do now?" she asked her friend, looking a little helpless.
"Oh don't be petty Marls," Lily snorted, amused at how her friend tried to divert the conversation a bit when she insinuated she was the one who fancied Sirius for just merely defending him. "He's grown up quite a bit over the past few months - we've all been sort of forced to mature a bit after all and when you look past his idiocy, he's quite the decent bloke. You can't even deny that."
Lily held up her hands in mock surrender, raising her eyebrows at how adamantly Marlene seemed to abhor the mere insinuation that they fancied each other. "Alright, alright, I'll take your word for it that you don't in fact fancy Sirius. But you can't go on and rant about how much you hate him. That's a very loaded word," she tried to reason more calmly, testing out the waters because if there was one thing she knew about Marlene, it was that she could be incredibly stubborn when she wanted to be.Ā
She raised her eyebrows as Marlene continued to explain the extent of what had happened, it was really quite the story. "So let me get this straight," she began slowly, gauging her friend's reaction. "You snogged Sirius, snogged another Ravenclaw, fought with him, offended him, and then ended up...talking?" she asked rather dubiously, that was a lot to take in. "Sounds to me like you've got a lot of unresolved, pent-up...I dunno...tension. Obviously there's something that keeps you going back to him, and I reckon it's not his snogging abilities either. I honestly think you're overthinking things here Marls."Ā
It is an excellent approach, Lilsy-dear. I get to destroy things and kill things that are not technically alive so itās no crime, so itās perfect. But I might just end up puking in a corner somewhere, which is far less appealing. Letās not hope that happens. And I hope you realise youāre making Dumbly sound like some sort of pervert who gets off on teenagers smooching in the hallways.
Ā Oh, excuse me my warrior lady princess! I absolutely, sincerely apologise for making such a mistake. You are indeed intimidating, I can feel my heart beat against my chest as if it wants to escape just because you are so intimidating. Pure fear.
No I reckon puking in a random corner wouldn't exactly be in the spirit of things, but it's all about moderation, isn't it? {Lily laughs though, when Dorcas twists her words a bit, which consequently do indeed paint Dumbledore in a not-so-appealing light.} I didn't mean it like that Doe, dear Merlin! I just meant he's always going around spouting quips like "Love conquers all."
There there, Dorcas, I'm only properly intimidating when I want to be. You just don't want to be the sorry bloke who has to stare down the end of my wand someday. Mum says I have quite the temper.
But think of all the first years he makes laugh when the scary seventh years get paint on their heads, think of all the bad days heās cheered up by the objects thrown at passing Slytherins!
And think of all the times I've inevitably had to clean up all said messes...sure Peeves is great for a laugh, but I assure you, it's not nearly as hysterically when you're the one sorting it all out afterwards.
This is what I want for my birthday in two weeks.
Ā Homeless because you ate it all, or homeless because it melted? -he laughed- I know itās quite inpractical, but Iād just love to be in it for once.
Iād love to work on a spell like that! We have to!!
The former, probably, I wouldn't be able to resist snacking on my chocolate house, I'm sure of it!
Perhaps together we could collaborate the first ever chocolate house.

Girl to Girl // Marlene & Lily Para
Marlene had already opened her mouth in an attempt of explaining her why exactly this bothered so much, when Lily suddenly insinuated that terrible idea. āWhat? No, bloody hell, what is wrong with you?ā she asked her friend as if she was out of her mind, which she certainly was if she really thought Marlene had a crush on that git. āWhy on earth would I ever fancy Sirius Black?! Heās a git, heās a prat, heās annoyingly arrogant, no way that I would ever fancy him! Thatās not even close to my problem!ā she told her and rolled her eyes slightly as she shook her head.
"The problem is, that he is Jamesā best friend and Jamesā is like my brother and I donāt think he will like it very much that I snogged his best friend!" Marlene explained and looked at Lily as if that was absolutely obvious. "Or do you think he will jump up and down at the news? I doubt it. And even though Iām not sure if he will be mad at me, heāll probably be mad at Sirius and though I donāt really like that prat, it wouldnāt be fair if his best friend was mad at him just because he happened to snog his almost sister, when he was drunk. Certainly nothing of your bullshit assumption, no offence, Lils." Marlene really couldnāt quite see, why her best friend had thought of something like that, but in all honesty, she didnāt really care. She didnāt and would never fancy a Sirius Black, but that didnāt mean she absolutely despised him. But that was certainly no reason to assume she already fancied him.
Lily folded her arms, not even attempting to disguise her smug grin now, because no matter how much her friend protested the fact, Lily was now convinced that it was true - every denial Marlene uttered only seemed to verify that fact to her. "I'm perfectly sane actually, it's not that much of a stretch really," she said matter-of-factly, knowing that her grin would only drive her friend mad. "And you're grossly exaggerating things, even I'll admit that Sirius is a decent bloke, hell he's practically one of the most admirable ones around. Most of the time he acts like a pompous prat for a laugh, and his heart is always in the right place even though he is known to do some incredibly stupid things. I dunno Marls, you could do a whole lot worst," Lily stated, feeling the need to defend Sirius seeing as he couldn't do it himself at the moment.Ā
"Oh that's the most ridiculous excuse if I've ever heard one, just a complete load of bollucks!" Lily laughed then, the fact that Marlene was using James' opinion as an excuse was actually quite laughable. "Trust me, the last thing I'm sure James is worried about is either of your romantic endeavors. Yeah perhaps it'll take him some adjustment, but he'd probably be the first to congratulate the two of you if he ever caught wind of you fancying each other. In fact, he'd probably just throw you two in a broomcloset and place bets," Lily grinned fondly as she pictured that. " 'Course James is an overprotective git - we've already established that ages ago - but he does know Sirius Black better than anyone, and despite some of his flaws, Sirius is a great bloke." Now Lily didn't want to come off as if she wanted to go on a match-making extravaganza, but she didn't see why Marlene was so against even saying she liked Sirius. "Sirius couldn't possibly have done anything to make you despise him, that's a rather harsh word. Unless of course he was a shoddy snog," she joked.Ā
Girl to Girl // Marlene & Lily Para
Marlene should have known better than to think she could lie to Lily without her knowing it, but she would probably keep on trying anyway. After all, she wasnāt even quite sure what she should - she definitely wasnāt even quite sure what exactly was going on between her and Black now or if there was simply nothing at all. It confused her in a way she absolutely hated and she really hoped she would be able to figure it out soon.
"I, uh, well⦠I think I did something very stupid", Marlene started very slowly and bit her lip as she looked at her best friend for a few seconds, before she moved her eyes down to her hands instead. "At that party, you know, the one after the Winter holidays⦠I, uhm⦠I might have snogged Sirius Black⦠not just once", she told her and bit her lip again, not daring to look up at Lily as she didnāt exactly want to see how she was reacting.
At first, Lily opened her mouth as if to say something, though she wasn't particularly sure what the adequate response was for that so she just settled on muttering, "Oh," leaning her head to the side as she fully comprehended to information. "Well that's certainly quite the predicament," she agreed with a small nod. The thing was though, now that Lily had properly gotten to know Sirius this year - and truthfully had gotten much closer to him than previous years - she found that she quite liked him, she'd even go as far as saying they were fairly close friends. Though in retrospect, he had quite the notorious rapt sheet when it came to relationships - or lack thereof. As far as most knew, Sirius Black didn't do relationships, he was more of the snog and forget kind of bloke.Ā
"Well I mean, everyone's entitled to a few drunken snogs every now and then, that sort of thing's to be expected," she began slowly, watching Marlene's reaction. Normally she didn't stress over this sort of thing, Marlene herself didn't particularly like to be attached to blokes, so this wasn't the first time she had snogged a lad at a party on whim. Which was very suspicious as to why she looked so worried about it... "Oh my God!" Lily finally gasped, something just dawning on her. "You fancy Sirius! You, Marlene McKinnon, have a crush!"
I genuinely think thatās why Dumbledore got him, Lils.
{He laughed at her.}
It's not funny, I swear he causes more chaos than you marauders back in fifth year did. And now I'm responsible for cleaning it all up. {Lily sighed dramatically at that.}
Bloody Peeves makes my life so much more difficult...
Girl to Girl // Marlene & Lily Para
Ā Marlene couldnāt keep a tiny smirk of of her face as she listened to Lily try to explain her why she shouldnāt talk to James about maybe fancying him. All of her reason were pointless, especially since it was just so terribly obvious that James was head over heels for you, but Marlene had intervened into their relationship enough already. She was sure that at some point, one of them was finally going to make the first step and speak up about their feeling, but until then she would just enjoy their game of hide and seek. After all, it was pretty adorable to watch them as an outsider and still know what they were thinking.
"Well, sometimes predictable and unexciting can be nice and relaxing too", Marlene replied and smiled at her slightly as she cocked her head to the side to look at her properly. "Uh, well, my life has been pretty boring as well"; she lied, hoping that she wouldnāt blush or reveal her lie in any other way. "Nothin exiciting or worth telling", she added and shook her head, not quite able to look Lily in the eyes as she shook her head.
Lily was glad Marlene had let the James subject drop, at least for now. She wasn't particularly in the mood for talking about it, especially since it was something she found herself over-thinking on her own to begin with and she didn't need any more incentive to worry over it any more. Valentine's Day was certainly not the ideal time to be preoccupying such thoughts. She knew that eventually she'd have to be honest with herself and admit to the feelings but she didn't know if she'd mustered enough courage for that just yet.Ā
She raised a skeptical eyebrow. "Never thought I'd hear you say your life is boring," she teased lightly, and she couldn't help but feel as if her friend was downplaying something. Because if Lily Evans knew one thing, it was that Marlene McKinnon was never one to be content with simple boredom. There had to be more. "You're avoiding telling me something, aren't you? Out with it McKinnon," she added with a smug smirk at how easily she'd come to read her over the years.Ā

This is what I want for my birthday in two weeks.
I know.. but how amazing would that be.. An actual chocolate house?! I want one, like now..
With a chocolate house, I'd be homeless in days! But I reckon it would be a dream come true, sleeping on a chocolate bed. {Lily chuckles at the very thought}
You know, we could even charm the house to make sure it'd never melt!
Girl to Girl // Marlene & Lily Para
A smile widened on Marleneās face as Lily talked, and she had to hold her back, so she wouldnāt smirk or grin too much. āHonestly Lily, considering the history of you two and now you say something like that⦠to me it sounds like you fancy him. A lot. But I know you and you probably wonāt admit that just yet, so let me just tell you, the way you talk about him and that he has gotten such an important part of your life makes me automatically think that you like him as more than just a friend. You wouldnāt talk about me like thatā, Marlene told her and couldnāt keep herself from grinning anymore.
"But anyway, I can see that you donāt really want to talk about it, so, did anything else happen that was exiciting enough to tell me?" she asked a and reached out to tweak her best friendās toe gently, like she always did, when she wanted to bring a smile onto her face. "Anything other than annoying stupid couples, of course."
"Sure I would, I'd say the same thing about you - I dunno what I'd do without you either, you are my best mate after all," she grinned before continuing. "And so is James, though I guess it's a bit different, considering our history. But what matters is now, that we're friends, that we're part of each other's lives, and I don't want to take that for granted. I'm really happy with how things are. And why botch that all up because I might fancy him? I dunno if it'd be worth the risk," she shrugged, sighing deeply. Now she just sounded far too mopey for her liking - and on Valentine's no less. She had far better priorities than to worry about her current relationship status at the moment.Ā
"It's too exhausting talking about this," she agreed, collapsing onto the mattress, folding her arms under her head as she stared at the ceiling. "My life's been quite predictable, nothing all too exciting to report sadly. Mostly Head Duties and caught up in all our work. I sound terribly lame, don't I?" she laughed, turning to face her friend. "How about you though, I'm sure you must have something worth reporting."
I donāt have romantic quirks, Lily. None. I have merely things that turn me on and things that turn me off, but thatās nothing like a romantic quirks. I could tell them to you but you know, Iād probably gross you out. Not that Iām a pervert with gross turn ons, oh god no! But itās private. Some are. God, Iām rambling. Iām going to survive Valentineās by destroying every little heart that I see floating around. Oh, and kill those singing angels Lockhart provides each year.
You and intimidating? Donāt make me laugh, Lily.
{Lily chuckles a bit, it's quite amusing when Dorcas rambles like this, it's almost like she can spout anything out of her mouth without much filter - even though she's grown used to it after years of knowing her, it never fails to amuse her.} That's as good as any of an approach to get through this pink and frilly holiday - two things which I don't usually associate with you. But I am growing zealously tired of those flying little cherubs, I think Dumbledore gets a kick of watching lovesick couples. I mean, he especially loved Christmas time, with mistletoe hanging from every entryway.Ā
And I resent that, I am very intimidating! {Lily smirks a little, as she pretends to gasp exasperatedly} I mean, go ask James, he's stared at the end of my wand more than enough times. He'd at least know I'm not to be messed with.Ā
Girl to Girl // Marlene & Lily Para
Ā "Oh, thanks", Marlene replied and grinned slightly, when Lily tossed her the bag of fudge. She had always loved chocolate, especially at night, just before she went to bed. It was just so nice to be falling asleep with that taste in her mouth and that happy feeling chocolate always gave her.
"Yes, right, okay, you always do that, but still. James did get you your favourite", Marlene explained and shrugged a little as she put a piece of the chocolate into her mouth and sucked on it happily. "So you really not into him at all, Lils? I mean, you two have gotten so close in the past few months, it could be, you know?" she said and smiled at her weakly. "It would be really great if you two would try it out, you know? Youāre so sweet together and I think that James still likes you⦠havenāt you thought about that at all?"
Lily had to restrain herself from groaning loudly, she hadn't come here to be bombarded with questions about her and James - she got that enough to begin with. "Sure it was sweet and thoughtful, but it couldn't have really meant anything more than that. I mean, that's just the sort of thing friends do for each other, right?" Right, she answered to herself. James had always been the sort of bloke to initiate such considerate gestures - even when they weren't friends - so why read into things? Besides, he hadn't asked her out for ages, which at first she had been properly grateful for; it had meant they could forge a bond and a friendship without any lingering awkwardness, but despite that, every now and then Lily couldn't help but hope that he'd put it out there again. But she tried to dismiss that thought.
"James is great, better than that really, I dunno what I'd do without him if I'm honest..." she shrugged, chewing on her bottom lip, wondering if she had revealed too much already. "I can be honest with him - y'know, about everything. And we can laugh and joke, yet somehow we can switch to those serious moments to. He's always been there for me, and I know he always will be but -" she took a deep breath, shaking her head to gather her wits. "I don't want to lose that all. I can't lose that. He means...well he means a lot to me, and I just can't lose him," she said simply, her voice dropping considerably as she stared down at the sheets. Ā
This is what I want for my birthday in two weeks.
Sounds heavenly. But also has the potential to be very fattening.Ā

Girl to Girl // Marlene & Lily Para
Ā "Oh well, but at least you didnāt have to spend Valentineās Day not being on patrols but still alone, like, hello, this girl here", Marlene replied with an encouraging smile and winked at her. "Not like I really care, but itās still a little annoying to see all those lovey dovey couples around, when all I have to do is getting myself dirty in the mud rain during Quidditch practice", she explained, chuckling under her breath.
"James snuck you a bad of fudge? Thatās nice, especially since itās your favourite, isnāt it? Why doesnāt it count though? I didnāt get any candy from James", she grinned and winked at her best friend once again. "So, how are you two doing then? Youāve gotten pretty good friends by now, havenāt you?" Marlene asked, being interested in it herself and also wanting to talk about it with Lily, so she could tell James that she might actually finally fancy him back after all this time. It was obvious that Lily didnāt see how James was still head over heels for you, considering they had gotten so good friends and she considered his gift a nothing worth counting. But to everyone else James was clearly still in love with the redhead and she probably just needed some more time to finally see it as well - or maybe he would tell her about it first. Though Marlene was doubting that. James was just too scared she would reject him again, she couldnāt imagine him doing that anytime soon.
"Damn all those lovey-dovey couples to hell," Lily agreed, rummaging through her pocket where she finally produced what was left of her stash of fudge, popping a piece into her mouth thoughtfully before throwing part of the bag to her friend. She reckoned chocolate made everything better, or at least partially more bearable. "I think I might have nightmares...I started counting how many couples I found: a total of bloody nine, all giggling like lovesick idiots," she groaned, shaking her head. At least they could try to be a bit more discreet about it.Ā
"It doesn't count, because that's just the sort of thing we do Marls. It's common courtesy," she sighed, rolling her eyes at her friends, catching on quite quickly onto what she was insinuating. This certainly was not the first time someone had hinted to the idea she and James could be more than friends, and she was sure it certainly wouldn't be the last. And it wasn't like she needed anyone to remind her the fact that they were just strictly friends, which of course was perfectly fine. "We're fine yeah, just good friends. Who knew we could actually get on well, y'know. Although it's nice not having to shout at him all the time," she said nonchalantly, picking at something on her sweater. She didn't like the way her friend was eyeing her suspiciously.Ā
Girl to Girl // Marlene & Lily Para
Ā Marlene had been reading, while Lily had brushed her teeth, or at least she had tried to do so. Normally she didnāt have problems with reading, she liked it when she was in the right mood, and she had never had problems concentrating on her favourite book, but there was a first for everything and now was the time. She hated Valentine, to her it was stupid and useless, but a certain conversation she had had with Black today didnāt want to leave her mind and it bloody annoyed her. She had been thinking about him far too much recently anyway.
So when Lily opened her curtains, it was welcome distraction from her thoughts and she smiled widely at her friend, when she put down her book. āI take it that spirit of Valentineās Day has infiltrated everyoneās head in Hogwarts?ā she asked with a chuckle and out a bookmark into the book, before she set it onto her night stand. āWell, Iām glad to be off service and give you some time off now. How was your Valentineās Day then? Did you get anything, a rose, some chocolate?ā
Marlene guessed that James might have sent her something, but if he had, it would have been anonymous. Ever since he had stopped asking Lily out and they had become friends, he had been terribly shy about telling her how he felt, though to her it was still pretty obvious.
Lily leaned her head against Marlene's bedpost, sighing heavily. "Well I think it's pretty safe to say this was my worst Valentine's Day to date. By some stroke of bad luck, I got stuck with patrols, and I didn't even have a decent partner. James insisted on Quidditch practice - though you already knew that - Remus was ill, and so I was stuck with some snobby, pretentious fifth year Slytherin bloke. It was the very definition of awful," she groaned, clucking her tongue in despair of her awful luck. She knew she must've sounded terribly mopey, but the very last thing Lily wanted to be doing that night was charging through broomclosets to bust Hogwarts' lovesick couples. In her head she had constructed a hundred different scenarios in which the night could've gone better - definitely with better company - but sadly that had all failed to happen. And so here she was left moping.Ā
"Didn't get much, I reckon we're a bit too old for all the hearts and flower sort of mush as seventh years," she shrugged, that had been more of a phase back in 4th and 5th year when hormones were beginning to blossom and blokes didn't know how to properly ask out a girl. "Although an adorable little first year gave me a single rose, it was adorable," she grinned, though she reckoned that might've sounded a bit sad that was the highlight of her Valentine's Day. Ah well. "Oh, and James snuck me a bag of fudge for my patrol night of hell, but that hardly counts," she added as an afterthought, considering that wasn't exactly out of the norm. Considering how much both of them hated patrols, it wasn't uncommon for them to exchange bits and treats beforehand if only to make those couple of hours just a bit bearable. Granted the fudge also happened to be her favorite, perhaps he did put a bit more thought into it after all. She shook her head though, before she could over-analyze it. "How about you then? I must admit, I'm glad I didn't open your curtains to you and some random bloke," she teased lightly with a small smirk.
