Aww tysm!^^ I've been taking a bit of break from it rn, so this ask really made my day! <:] I want to try and make Umbra's character more than just being chaotic and evil (which I don't mind at all in villain characters! In fact I like it haha), because I feel like they have a lot of potential to be more than that! <:] And yeah a lot of the heartwarming feel probably comes from them having a bit of a more familial bond with White Peach and Wolfsbane.^^ They're basically the two's dad atp.

what’s the relationship between umbra and the ebony dragon in the au?? i’ve been curious

Hello!! I've been letting this ask marinate in my head all day and I think I feel confident enough to answer it!^^ I do wanna preface this by saying that the stuff I have thought of between them is mostly from Umbra's side and not so much as the Ebony Dragon's as of now (which is subject to change!)

So the best way I can describe it with what I have so far is that Umbra and Ebony started off as a bit of a master-servant relationship, where the latter of the two took an interest in Umbra since they recognized them as a cookie that managed to survive one of their attacks on a village long ago since they can smell their fire/blood whatever on them (i know this makes zero sense knowing the timeline of when the ebony dragon was sealed and how long a cookie can probably live for but let's just ignore that lol). Umbra's been trying to seek them out for a long time now because they want answers to who/what attacked them, and to be honest, kind of blame themselves for not being strong enough to save their loved ones back then. This is also why they come to care a lot about Xitang and later on White Peach but that's a story for another time. x3

I'm still figuring out how exactly Umbra came to become the Ebony Dragon's vessel in my au, whether it was out of coercion or willingness is still being decided. -w- I know in canon they mention something about being an insignificant being and an outcast and promising the Ebony Dragon they'll be a worthy vessel, so I'll see what I can do with that. x3

But anyhow, after a while of being the Ebony Dragon's proxy and the dragon rubbing off on them, the Ebony Dragon does soften up a little bit around Umbra. Sure, at the end they're gonna use Umbra as a vessel to come back once they're released, but to the Ebony Dragon, it's been too long since they've had any other being show them that much affection and adoration. So yeah, Ebony Dragon does tend to care about Umbra a bit. -w-

Also I'm so glad you like my au and my work! <:D It's been a while since I've really developed a story like this one (besides my ocs lol), so I hope I can eventually develop and share something that I will be satisfied with in the end hehe.^^ I love Umbra a lot and I hope that we can see more of their character come the following updates! >wo

So here's another part of the au I've been thinking about: Umbra is Xitang's father and after losing her in some way and taking in White Peach after the destruction of her clan, they're more stern with her but have a bit of a soft spot. In turn, white peach starts to see Umbra as a sort of father figure herself later on, but still craves their validation.

(FYI I wanna mention that this au is relatively recent, so I'm still trying to write out a plot here for the au in general! I'm just playing with some ideas for now and waiting for more obscure umbra lore in the future! Hopefully devsis delivers eee!^^)
