𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐊𝐒   —

now that he knew of her status as queen, it was harder for him to discern whether she would assist them or not. on the one hand, she seemed to be kind and receptive to his pleas, and yet he knew how quickly one’s empathy could turn. he didn’t know her, and if he slipped up now, there was a good chance she would take whatever he told her straight to the elvenking. ❛ it has little to do with your appearance and everything to do with my allegiance to my people. it is not for me to say. ❜ he was guilty of possessing a careless tongue, but he was wise enough to know when to be cautious. anything less would serve to threaten the progress they’d already made. ❛ the ire between thorin and thranduil runs deep. you should know that better than anyone. ❜

outsider or not, she was still their sovereign.

❛ even if i told you, it would make little difference to how the elvenking reacts. his opinion of us was etched in stone long ago. ❜

‘ i do know that, ‘ she said airily, because her husband tended to feud with everyone from time to time, even her. though she’d never admit it, she loved his fire, and sometimes she could see the threat of a smile lingering on his lips when he spoke to her. she looked over at the prisoner from behind those bars, and arched a brow. 

‘ but i am not the elvenking. and i do not have such ire for your king or your people. ‘ she folded her hands in her lap. ‘ i do so wish people would stop lumping us together. ‘ she sounded mildly irritated at the idea of it, because she knew it wouldn’t stop. breathing a sigh, she turned violet eyes on his face once more.

               aragorn   was   lucky   that   he   faced   nothing   but   a   SCRATCH   from   the   earth   beneath   him.      for   he’d   had   to   ROLL   out   of   the   way,   and   stray   twig   upon   ground   had   scraped   his   cheek.      it   was   hardly   the   WORST   he’s   ever   faced   in   his   long   life.      ❝   nothing   a   ranger   cannot   handle.   ❞      figure   bends,   fingers   curling   around   arrow   and   tugging   it   free   from   skull.      the   thick   blood   oozes   from   wound,   and   he   uses   his   own   clothing   to   wipe   blood   clean   from   her   weapon.      ❝   still   in   tact.      it   should   not   be   left   to   WASTE   in   such   vile   a   creature.   ❞      presents   it   back   to   her   majesty.

         She gave a curious look to the elvenqueen, head tilted as she glanced upwards through her lashes. In all her years of ruling over this kingdom, and dwelling in it…to not simply stop and sit beneath the boughs of these great trees? “I find that very surprising indeed. You have all the time in the world–why not let now be the time to sit and enjoy the shade with me?”

if she was trying to get him to warm up to her, it wasn’t going to work. at least, that was what he kept telling himself. he liked to think that he was as stoic and stern as his uncle was, but all it took was a warm smile and a sense of humor to bring his guard down. he respected those traits in others — especially at times like these. ❛ if we are as alike as you say, you should do us a kindness and let us out. we’ve done nothing to endanger your people. ❜ nor would they. the company had their reservations about elves, but they would never strike unless forced to do so. ❛ we have matters to attend to elsewhere. matters that mean a great deal to us. ❜ if anyone could understand that, perhaps it would be her.

SHOULDN’T HE , THE KING OF THIS PLACE ? There was expression on his fair, deadly countenance, of one who foresees bad news being given to him. The foreboding sent a chill into the air as he stared daggers at scouts’ approach.

❝ I should.  Yet you must be the one to convey my deepest apologies to Thranduil. ❞ Oropher could imagine the kind of temper that might play on princely face, could make himself regret his decision if he thought for longer. So, he does not. ❝ Princesses-to-be have a lot of responsibility. ❞ Humourous.

𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐋𝐄𝐒  𝐒𝐇𝐄  𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐃  𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅  𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇  𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐃  𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐄  𝐖𝐄𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓  𝐅𝐎𝐑  𝐇𝐈𝐌  ,  as  was  the  case  with  most  Elven  royalty  in  Middle  Earth  .  Black  eyes  briefly  took  in  her  appearance  ,  then  a  short  nod  of  his  head  (  more  to  confirm  something  for  himself  ,  than  as  a  response  to  her  )  .  He  should  have  known  immediately  whom  he  was  speaking  to  ;  the  description  given  to  him  was  almost  eerily  precise  .  ❝  Oh  ,  I  see  now  .  I  was  wondering  when  we  would  finally  meet  .  Thranduil  must  have  missed  an  opportunity  for  introduction  earlier  .  ❞

Although  initially  slightly  irritated  by  her  statement  ,  serious  offense  was  not  taken  and  her  apology  accepted  .  ❝  Vastly  exaggerated  …  ❞  Repeated  her  words  ,  but  his  tone  almost  sounded  as  if  he  were  asking  a  question  .  ❝  It  surprises  me  that  my  height  is  mentioned  anywhere  in  the  first  place  .  How  disappointing  for  you  ,  though  ;  what  were  you  expecting  to  see  ?  ❞

———  ❛  he  tends  to  let  those  kinds  of  things  SLIP ,  ❜ she  agreed , with  mention  of  an  introduction  having  been  misplaced . ❛  and  i  suppose  as queen , i  am  fully  capable  of  introducing  MYSELF  and  leaving  more  pressing  issues  to  my husband-king . ❜ she  adjusted  the  long , forest-green  dress  she  wore  —  raiment  embroidered  with  autumn  leaves  and  stags , all  things  BEFITTING  a  queen  of  woodland .

——— a  long ,  long  time  ago,  in  the  SOUTHERN  reaches  of  mirkwood , was  a  dark  sorcerer  that  the  elves  realized  too  LATE  was  the  evil  of  sauron  returned . he  was  a  blight  for  the  ages , POWER  hungry  and  vicious  and  in  utter  refusal  to  let  anything  or  ANYONE  get  in  his  way . 

but  even  with  all  the  DREAD  ABOMINATION  did  to  these  lands  and  its  people , she  had  to  think his  emissary  was  FAR  worse . the  sight  of  him  turned  her  stomach — she  was  thankful  she  had  refused  breakfast  this  morning , lest  it  be  upheaved  now  on  the forest  floor . the  elven  guards  behind  her  stood  STOIC  and  ready , but  amarthaniel  did not  let  them advance . 

𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐘  𝐀  𝐌𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓  𝐖𝐀𝐒  𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐓  𝐀𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐄  𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍  𝐇𝐄  𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐃  𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃  𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐌  .  Could  be  found  by  the  Prince’s  side  most  commonly  ;  the  sole  reason  for  his  occasional  presence  within  Greenwood  the  Great  .  Except  now  he  was  on  his  own  for  a  change  .  Oropherion  off  to  a  private  meeting  with  his  King  …  or  something  of  the  sort  .

Words  caught  him  off  guard  ;  head  was  turned  to  see  who  spoke  to  him  .  A  brow  arched  slightly  ,  slender  fingers  tapped  against  a  glass  filled  with  red  wine  .  ❝  Oh  ?  What  a  bold  thing  to  say  .  Have  we  met  before  ?  ❞  Rínir  could  not  recall  .  Either  way  ,  he  thought  it  an  odd  way  to  address  anyone  .  Especially  since  he  was  still  much  taller  than  the  elven  lady  before  him  .
