Ever since she could remember, Elta wanted to be a part of something big – something significant, something that would leave a mark on the world and everyone would know her for playing a part in it. Little did she know that her childhood dream would come true. When Elta reached her teen years her and her siblings learned the truth about the rebels – about how they aimed to help the people who had been hurt by Cosima and how the group was also aiming to take the immortal down. The truth of the resistance was something all three Jacob siblings were fascinated with. Unfortunately their family wasn’t the type to get involved with people like the rebels and while her siblings decided to go against their family’s beliefs and join the rebels, Elta was far more discreet about her loyalties. She kept her life as a neutral and made sure to blend in with the just enough so that no one would know which side she had chosen. In doing so her loyalty was only known by a few rebels – if even that – and this worked well for her because if helped her blend in. Especially when she was sent or ordered to complete certain tasks that required a level of anonymity.
For a time things continued on as normal for the siblings – that was, however, until they met and helped a clone. Out of the three Elta was the most suspicious. Her ties with the rebels had to be kept under wraps and while her siblings, Eli and Eliza, were known to be very vocal about stance on the matter, Elta was afraid that the appearance of the clone was some kind of setup. A plot to capture the Jacobs siblings or a punishment for taking side. Fortunately nothing terrible seemed to happen. They took in the clone and took care of them – but the peace didn’t last. One day people showed up and killed her brother, took her sister and this clone – Atticus – ended up doing nothing but running away. Because of the events that unfolded Elta turned her back on clones, avoiding them, hardly speaking to them even if they were telling her the truth. She didn’t believe a word that came out of their mouth. She wouldn’t trust them again even if her life depended on it.
Soon after the tragedy that took her brother and sister from her, Elta was given a new mission. And while the woman was still grieving – hurting over what had happened to her family – she accepted the job. After all her task was to protect and make sure someone’s brother was safe and while it didn’t seem like a big deal, Elta thought that maybe if she took care of this person then it would make her feel less guilty about her own siblings deaths. That she could at least protect and keep someone’s sibling safe. Even if he wasn’t her own. Her anonymity would help her as it always did, appearances as a neutral but secretly a rebel. Because of this face she could get near to The Garden Facilities without raising awareness – without getting caught.
The job should have been an easy one. Protect the brother. Don’t let him get hurt. Keep him safe. What Elta didn’t plan on, however, was for her to develop feelings for him. And at first she refused to believe them. Ignored them for what they were and buried them deep down – Malacai was a part of The Garden. He was forbidden to get involved romantically with anyone and she was sure that if they were to get caught the punishment would be horrendous. Not only because Malacai was breaking the rules but also because she was secretly a rebel. That fact alone would get Malacai killed – and then her mission would be for naught. Being accused of treason, torture, and death – all three were reasons enough for Elta to panic over her feelings and to question whether or not they were worth it.
The fear, however, passed and Elta finally accepted her feelings for the man she had sworn to protect. They managed to keep their relationship a secret for years and therefore never under threat of the rebellion or Cosima finding out. Seven problem free years they would spend together until trouble eventually found them. And that trouble was Elta’s pregnancy. She had to hide herself completely from the world least people find out about her child and this strained her relationship. Tension grew and when Malacai got fired from The Garden only to return months later, Elta was captured and tortured by Cosima’s people. The worst part wasn’t the torture or the days and nights spent crying for her until her voice ran raw – no. The worst was watching Malacai kill himself in front of her because he’d found out the truth – that she had been a rebel all along. The stress was too much and Elta went into labor not long after. However, her grief multiplied tenfold when she was told that her child was stillborn. Loss of life seemed to be a common thing within her life and Elta can still hardly get through the day without thinking about her siblings or what all has happened to her. But after a very long time of dealing, she realized something. She had to fight for herself. All her life she’d been fighting for others – helping others and every time losing everyone she loved and cared about most. Now it was her time to fight – for herself and for everything she’d lost along the way. And if she died doing so then that was it. After all, there wasn’t really anything else left for her except herself. At least that’s what she believed.
Her daughter - that she never got to meet because the girl was taken from her at moment of birth. Elta have tried every year to find out the truth about her daughter, what really happen to her because she wouldn’t just accept that her baby was dead. She wouldn’t believe it. So she has spent most of her time trying to find the truth of what had happened - but only recently finding out that her daughter was indeed alive. Now Elta’s sole purpose is to find her and keep her safe from everything and everyone that might want to harm her.
Her siblings - older brother and twin sister. They were the people Elta loved and cared about the most. But sadly lost them too soon when they were killed and taken by Cosima for helping a clone and she still wishes she could go back and change everything - that she could convince them of making better decision that wouldn’t lead to their deaths.
He was her mission - but soon became so much more. Malacai became her best friend and husband. They were great together and most importantly they helped each other and took care of other. Malacai became the person she cared about the most and she would’ve have done anything to prevent his death. She never wanted things to go the way they did and if she never told him the truth it was for his own safety but to this day - El still regrets never telling the truth because maybe that way she could still have him with her. The real him.
This clone is her late husband’s clone and as much as El’s despise the clones she can’t help but have soft spot for this one. She pretends she couldn’t care less about him being back since he is a clone but the truth is that M-021 is the only clone she cares about. It is her husband after all but she still tries to deny her feelings about him and him being back. But most of all - she likes to keep her distance because he is also a reminder of everything she lost and couldn’t keep safe when she had the chance.
He’s just another friend and coworker to Elta. Though the woman its wary of him since he has proven not to be the most trustworthy person by far, but she remains close to him due both of them being part of the rebellion and being assigned the same areas and groups. Though Elta doesn’t know about the fact that Micah knows the truth about his daughter and what he’s done or otherwise things wouldn’t go as well as they do between the two
