Whoever the heck doesn’t, for even a moment, see the queerness in Wicked it just blind. Some of those lines could literally be coming out quotes or quotes from someone accepting their identity and I wouldn’t even bat an eye.

Don’t believe me?

”Something has changed within me, something is not the same. I’m through with playing by the rules of someone else’s game. Too late for second guessing, too late to go back to sleep. It’s time to trust my intincts.”

That could literally be read in the context of a coming out speech.

Still not convinced?

”Too long I’ve been afraid of losing love, I guess I’ve lost. Well if that’s love, it comes at much too high a cost.”

Could literally be someone saying the equivalent of ‘I’ve been so scared of losing my loved ones because I’m gay, but this is who I am. If they don’t accept me, I’m better off without them.’

Heck even-

“And if I’m flying solo, at least I’m flying free. To those who ground me, take a message back from me.”

Could be someone going ‘If I’m alone, at least I’m honest with who I am.’

Seriously, just listen to the song as if Elphaba is singing about being gay. You’ll see.
