HERO BOT CON 2013!
Yes! Hero Bot Con is happening! This blog is called ELMIRA COMICS, yet the convention will be held in Horseheads, NY. I'm told the venue had to be changed from the FFC to the Wings of Eagles. Â I think the new location is cool. Â If only becuase of the new poster. Â Very WW2 like. What do you think? It was drawn by Geoff Munn. Â His comic is called Kiosk. That can be found here http://www.kioskcomic.com/

I, Vampire from DC Comics's The New 52! Volume 1 "Tainted Love" was a great standout in the overdone genre of Vampires.
A story focusing on "Mary Queen of Blood" and her vampire army who wish to rise from the darkness (pun intended) and take the earth from the humans vs. Andrew who not only created Mary but loved her who does not want to see innocent humans killed. With a cameo from Batman it all came together as an interesting read.Â

Free Comic Book Day is approaching fast this Saturday. Here’s a quick look at some of the more anticipated ones coming out!
Fubar                                          Fubar Press
In a market filled with walking dead and people being left for or fighting with the dead, Fubar tries to bring a unique perspective on that tale. Similar to how the novel World War Z approaches the subject, Fubar (which is really a military acronym that I don’t think I can type in a PG paragraph) looks at how the military would deal with the threat of a zombie outbreak. While it is yet another addition to a market saturated with mindless stories endlessly craving your attention, Fubar is interesting because it is a well written idea, focusing less on the horror of a zombie outbreak and more of the practicality of such a threat against an organized military. The issue moves the focus from Revolutionary troops to modern military operators and places in between, and especially when considering the asking price (free) is well worth the pick up.

Aphrodite IX Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Top Cow Publishing
Beautiful art. That’s the first thing I thought of when I opened the pages to this book. And then after I read it I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the second issue. I still can’t. Top Cow has been producing some top quality stories lately and this is no exception. Or maybe it is, in that it is one of the most enticing reads I have had in a while. Set in the same universe as the new Cyber Force by top cow, Aphrodite IX is set in the future when the world went to hell only to rise again in a new era of war. The story is great, setting up a fantastic world of sci-fi and fantasy, mixing beautifully rendered dragons with epic ships and machinery. If you like an art-style reminiscent of Alex Ross and enjoy writing on a caliber with Orson Scott Card, you might enjoy this great offering from Top Cow.

Walking Dead                                Image Comics
Image’s offering for The Walking Dead is a gathering together of some of the most poignant and striking parts of all the one shot issues that have been done. Focusing on the individual back stories of some of the more interesting characters in the series, this collection brings together stories from the Governor, Michonne, Tyreese, and the Morgan and Duane Jones. While each vignette serves as a good back-story for the characters, it’s interesting to note that these characters are prominent in both the comic and TV series. For rfans of the show, they are great to read and interesting stories, but for avid readers of the comic series, as they are just reprints, don’t feel obligated to pick one up unless you forgot to read the character’s one shot special issues.

Infinity                                       Marvel Comics
Infinity is Marvel’s attempt to provide enticing previews for a multitude of upcoming series and events across it’s universe, and tell you what, it is a great job done. The entire issue is comprised of three parts, a prologue to Marvel’s big upcoming space event, Infinity, a classic story of Thanos and the Guardians of the Galaxy, and a preview of Marvel’s first ever graphic novel, Avenger’s: Endless Wartime. The stories in this issue are enticing appetizers for the upcoming stories which are being penned and illustrated by some of Marvel’s best talents. Jonathan Hickman is an exciting writer for Infinity, and for Endless Wartime, Warren Ellis and Mike McKone seem to be set to create what is hopefully a landmark book for Marvel. Overall this is at the top of things coming out this Saturday and a definite pick-up.
Uncanny Avengers #5 Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Marvel Comics
After finishing up his first story-arch in the series, Rick REmender continues to deliver in Uncanny Avengers, which centers around the Avengers Unity Division, a combination of the best of the X-Men and the Avengers. This issue continues to deal with the emotions and violence linked with mutant prejudice, and in this issue the Unified team makes its first public press appearance which leads to more conflict between mutants and humans, which ends on an interesting note. This issue is a very nice set up piece for this new arch and is not lacking any action itself. When it comes to dialogue and characters, I don't need to tell you that Rick Remender has become a staple of Marvel story-telling. After his run on Secret Avengers and as seen in his work on Captain America, Remender is able to bring out the best in whatever comics he writes, and it is no different for Uncanny Avengers. Remender's talent lies in taking the classic characters from a series past and revamping them for modern stories with great dialogue and intriguing plot elements. This, combined with Rick Morales amazing art on this new arch, makes Uncanny Avengers a great read, and a definite 'nned to buy'. Put it on your pull lists.
Preview of Superman #18 from the Amazing Aaron Kuder!

With no disrespect to Waid, Bates, Baron, Johns or any of the other amazing Flash writers, William Messner-Loebs has always been my favorite Flash writer. Issue #54 of this particular FLASH run remains a particular favorite. We’ve seen recent echoes of the ‘Nobody Dies’ theme turning up in DOCTOR WHO and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, but this is the first time I ever encountered it. Messner-Loebs took a done-in-one story and made it memorable.Â
