Nothing. Try writing down some jokes you hear popular comedians say. They’re very often not great. The words are only a fraction of the sell. The rest is cadence, demeanor, context, environment.

In all seriousness, I grew up acting and always wanted to do it. Somewhere along the way, my parents said I needed a legitimate degree, I got married, life happened, and I convinced myself I’d be a responsible adult with a 9-5 job. Then one day, I asked my wife at the time if we could move to LA, and she was entirely on board, and we never looked back. We’re not together anymore, but I’m very thankful for that and for our time together. Mostly, I’m thankful that I didn’t get sucked into doing something I wasn’t truly passionate about. At the end of the day, as pretentious as this sounds, I am an artist, and that just means my brain works differently than more scientifically-minded people. In other words, I saved more dogs by leaving veterinary medicine than I would’ve had I stayed, haha

What sucks is when the people who truly love you believe you’ve gone wayward or are losing it. I have difficulty not being affected by my loved ones’ very authentic, if not warranted, concerns for my well-being.
