on october 1st it was announced that okdal (also known as rooftop moonlight) have been named as the new host for mbc fm4u’s blue night radio. they will be taking over for lee dong jun, who took over the position as main dj after jonghyun stepped down from the show in april of 2017. as can be seen above: okdal were long time regulars on the show when jonghyun was a host. they also composed and wrote a special song for him during his final week on the show which can be listened to here. jonghyun’s first compilation album, the collection [story op. 1], was released three years ago today on september 17th, 2015. the album contained nine tracks that were entirely composed and written by jonghyun himself. each song had originally been released in demo version through a special segment on blue night radio where he created songs based on a combination of personal thought and stories that listeners had sent in to him. the title track, “하루의 끝 (end of a day)”, wrote the song based upon the feelings that he felt when coming back home from work every day, and also with his dog, roo, in mind. the release of the album marked the first time that sm had allowed one of their artists to release an entirely self-written and composed album without traditional promotion. the album also served as a basis for his first solo concert series, the agit: the story by jonghyun.

seoul music high school (서울실용음악고등학교) has announced a handful of (mustard seed) scholarships and a contest showcase in association with shiny foundation. seoul music high school is the alma mater of jonghyun. the basis of all scholarships is to “celebrate the musicality of the late kim jonghyun (shinee’s jonghyun)” in a manner that will “support the academic and cultural arts activities of youth and young artists”. the first scholarship will serve the purpose of encouraging the growth of talented youth by supporting a selection of students who provide good examples based on their studying / academic skills and excellent musicality. 50% of the second semester tuition of three students will be provident to one student per grade for this school year. next year, 50% of the annual tuition for one student from second and third year studies will be provided. the second scholarship will be provided to two incoming freshman students (one with a vocal major and another with a midi arrangement major) for the year of 2019 who achieved the highest total score in selection criteria through their audition process. each student will be given 50% of their annual tuition for the 2019 school year. the third and final tuition will be an emergency relief scholarship. the scholarships will be provided on a private individual basis based on recommendation to the foundation by the school principal, and provide up to three contributions of 500,000₩ per person. this scholarship will always be open in operation by schedule. finally, both this and next year, a contest showcase is planned in honor of jonghyun. in this contest, students interested in participating will be asked to remake one of jonghyun’s songs in a way that commemorates his musicality. each remake will be covered during a showcase (this and next year) and there will be three winners awarded. the first place winner (for the 빛이나 award) will receive 500,000₩. the second place winner (for the inspiration award) will receive 300,000₩, and the third place winner (for the base award) will receive 200,000₩. (though it is noted on the announcement page that details for this are still under discussion.)
