waking up in bed with Lisa after a night of what she calls “the Dean Winchester treatment” - the gentle, slow lovemaking that has become his calling card despite the hard front he puts up - and kissing the back of her hand before he gets up to make breakfast, bc he knows it makes her feel loved and special

getting a simple arrangement of fresh flowers for Lisa and making her a nice meal on Valentine’s Day bc he knows she secretly loves it even though she completely understands Dean’s discomfort with the over the top-ness and expectations of the holiday, and being excited when she takes him out to buy up discount candy the next day 

bc for 50% off chocolate truffles he can ignore the packaging and deal with the shelves of ridiculous stuffed and/or heart-shaped merchandise 

finding different ways to tell Lisa how much he cares for her bc he’s uncomfortable with saying I love you, and she understands that Dean saying I appreciate you, I’m grateful for you, or kissing her at her temple with a long pause is his way of letting her know

Cas understanding what I need you means after hearing Dean say it a few more times 

and he finds himself saying it too 

so he understands the weight those three words carry

rolling his eyes every time Romantic Movies comes up in the Netflix suggestions, but smiling bc he knows Sam was watching some cheesy love story or epic romance

doing everything he can after he opens up to Cas about how much he loves him to explain the love but not in-love thing which Cas seems to grasp pretty quickly

realizing that he shows his love through food after making pancakes, eggs, and bacon, then waffles, then omelettes and hashbrowns, then biscuits from scratch with sausage gravy on alternating mornings for breakfast/brunch for two weeks after he and Cas have that conversation

being in relationships with people who understand his lack of romantic intent doesn’t mean he is incapable of loving them 

no romo’ing the fuck out of some platonic gestures of affection
