when I was in my J7 fic writing era circa 2011, I was heavily influenced by the extant J7 fics I'd been reading in the year or two beforehand. so, fics from pre-ao3, the web-ring and personal fic site era, late 90s and early 00s. GLDartt, etc.
and in my head I've been like "hah hah, so wild, that era was soooooo long ago, I'm glad I shed that influence bc I'd never phrase things that way anymore, that was soooooo old fashioned even when I was writing"
but! I just did the math and had a cleopatra-and-the-pyramids moment.
because the time elapsed between today and when I wrote those fics is greater than the time between those 90s/00s fics and my own fic????
it's been so long that *I* am now the cringe old fashioned outdated language and style relic
