But the Lord inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram’s wife Sarai. 18So Pharaoh summoned Abram. “What have you done to me?” he said. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife? 19Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!”
So, Abram told his wife to pretend that they were brother and sister, so that the Pharaoh would look kindly down on them, and not kill him. I never noticed this before, but Pharaoh took Sarai as his wife. Abram did this to avoid a famine in the land God had directed him to.
1. Don't lie. Abrams lie defiled his wife and cheapened his character.
2. Just because you are scared stick to God's plan. God led Abram to the promised land. When a famine arrived, he chose to take matters into his own hands. Perhaps he should have prayed first.
3. You cannot fight sin with sin, Just like Lot will offer up his daughters for rape to spare angels, you cannot fight sin with sin.
4. When offering up people- offer up yourself. It strikes me that these two men did not offer themselves up, but instead put the burden on their loved ones.
Dear God, let me first sacrifice myself before I hurt or endanger others. Lord help keep my focus on the pure, lord help keep me dependent on you, that I would call out to you first in my time of need, before rashly making plans. Help me walk in your ways. Amen
