S Genesis 20:11

11Abraham replied, “I thought, ‘This is a godless place. They will want my wife and will kill me to get her.’

O

Again, Abraham passes Sarah off as his Sister and lets a stranger marry her. It did not end well the first time so I am not sure why they would have done it again. But here He says he was afraid of their lives. The interesting thing I think about this passage is that Abraham says 'this is a godless place'. He changes his behavior to suit the area  he is in. He changed his morals to deal with 'godless people'. I think that this is something that radically changes in the new testament. Jesus calls us to be witnesses by even our actions. We are to walk in righteousness even if  we find ourselves in a godless place- perhaps even more so.

Walk honorably regardless of who or where you are. There is no 'when in Rome' for Christians to lower their moral standards. It may be fine to change small non important aspects of our lives to make unbelievers more comfortable (refraining from eating, drinking etc) but we should never change our stance on right and wrong.

21He said to him, “Very well, I will grant this request too; I will not overthrow the town you speak of. 22But flee there quickly, because I cannot do anything until you reach it.” (That is why the town was called Zoar. )

O

I never noticed this before, the Angels of the Lord were not able to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah until Lot and family made it to Zoar.

Lot's wife always made me wonder. I often thought that perhaps she looked back after hearing a loud noise. I have read commentaries that said you only look back for two reasons, one because you long for something, or two- because you maliciously want to watch something burn. But this bit of scripture really changes the scene. She did not look back on the run, because she was already in the safety of Zoar. Rules out the sudden noise.

Leave evil. just leave it. Don't look back to watch it burn, don't look back thinking of the good times. Just go.

Dear God, I know that I have a bad habit of romanticizing the past, even the bad past. Help me to let it go. Help me keep my eyes on you alone. Amen

Genesis 14:1

1At the time when Amraphel was king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goyim,

There are so many verses like this in the Bible. There are so many people and bits of History I do not think I could ever unravel if I had eternity to do so. BUT- God remembers, God never forgets.

A-

God forgets no one. He igonores no one. We are all precious in His sight.

S- Genesis 11:6

The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.

O-

God broke up Babel because people working together to could accomplish anything. Unfortunately, that anything, was trying to take over the universe and inject it full of sin.

A-

When God's people come together in His holy name, there is nothing we could not accomplish. We should set our goals on the holy and the pure.

Psalm 12:5

“Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan,

I will now arise,” says the Lord.

“I will protect them from those who malign them.”

God protects us. God watches over us. God will right the wrongs dealt us.

Genesis 6:20

Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.

When I read this account of the bible, Noah's Arc I always think how much it would suck. I am not a huge animal lover. I would not want to be on a boat with snakes and spiders for an hour, much less 40 days. But that is not God's way. God sends us what he wants us to tend to, no matter if they are a lion or a kitten, a scorpion or a butterfly. We are called to tend and care for all of God's creations.

I need to remember that we are all God's creations. Even the people I don't like. Especially the people I don't like.

12The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”Genesis 3:12

Not only did Adam not take responsibility for his actions, he blamed both Eve and God.

A

Take responsibility for your own actions. I think that this can be challenging when we live in a world that is so broken. Broken people break people. Sometimes we simply react before we can think things through or even see where we are coming from.

the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars,

which you have set in place,

4what is mankind that you are mindful of them,

human beings that you care for them?

5You have made them a little lower than the angels

and crowned them with glory and honor.- Psalm 8:3-5

It is amazing to me, and often something that I take for granted, that God created us to be part of creation. We are not just window dressing. We were made to interact. We were not the sofa he bought for the house, but the children he wanted to raise in it.

A-

When I am scared, frightened or nervous, I need to remember this. I am a child of God on High. I am a daughter of the one true king.And so is everyone else, whether they believe it or not.
