Just saw that hollywood report article and unfortunately we’re gonna need to have some hard conversations about how the only way to lessen the amount of professional racism Hudson is experiencing is by his white costars and director continually speaking out against it
I know some people live in a fantasy land where racism and white privilege don’t exist but the harsh truth is that namely Connor, Jacob, Francois, and Sophie are never gonna experience the racism Hudson currently is and he or even Ksenia or Nadine could yell about it until they’re blue in the face but nothing will change until those 4 (and if we’re really being honest even if I know I’m gonna get jumped for this) especially Connor speak out.
I’m not gonna call them racist and I’m not gonna call them fake friends or discount what Hudson means to them, I have never gotten the impression from Connor or Sophie (I don’t keep up with Francois and Jacob) that Hudson doesn’t mean the world to them, but unfortunately that sometimes just isn’t enough.
Obviously Hudson could’ve requested they not say anything, I’ve been a black woman my whole life, I’ve absolutely had to make the hard decision to not fly off the handle or let my friends do it over someone being racist to me even if they wanted to. For all we know they could be absolutely fuming about this privately and it’s what I hope to be true bc I’ve seen some people that almost seem like they want the cast to be purposefully ignoring the racism, and that’s just never gonna be me, I know how fucking awful it can be to be in an environment that is so deliberately racist and have no one on your side, so I would never for a minute wish that for Hudson.
So once again, I’m not calling them racist, but maybe I’ll go with ignorant, which isn’t an indictment on them, they’ve just never had to live in a world where they’ll experience racism, hell they could’ve come across something and not even realized it was racist (the carrot picture on the thirst tweets video comes to mind).
The bottom line, and really I think this is more towards the fans than anybody. Racism is real, white privilege is real, the majority of Hudson’s castmates will not experience racism and they do indeed have white privilege. The consistent babying has to stop, ironically that is a pillar of white supremacy lol, I absolutely believe Connor when he says he’s offline, but Y’ALL have got to stop using that excuse when it’s brought up that the racism will significantly decrease if he were to say something.
The fan and professional hatred of Hudson is racism, point blank. It’s going to take white voices standing up for him to lessen the hate, point blank. Hudson is apart of a majority white cast who simply will not go through what he goes through. Minorities in the fandom are allowed to be upset about racism and acknowledge what we know to be true from lived experience. It is not a crime to acknowledge Connor having privilege over Hudson, it doesn’t discount any negativity he may receive.
It is quite obvious what is happening to Hudson and until any professional or personal statement is released by Hudson, unfortunately people are gonna have to be ok with members of the cast being viewed differently for not standing up for him.
I am a #hudconmonogamist to the grave and a genuine fan of the show and Connor and truly look forward to whatever he will do next, but I’m a black woman who has been a victim to racism more times that I can count first and foremost and that will always supersede any fandom I have.
(I singled Connor out specifically bc we know he loves Hudson down but also bc he seems to be where y’all start experiencing cognitive dissonance and forgetting how the real world works for non-whites)
