still not over this game

the way fans often criticize games is as though game devs can freely achieve whatever they want with no limitations or complications, and if they don’t do something, it’s solely due to a lack of imagination. that devs can just think things into reality. I know when you write a story or draw an art piece just for yourself, this kind of instant creation from the mind seems natural. but game creation consists of so many different parts and people and considerations. MMORPGs even have limitations on storytelling that single player games don’t, where you have to ensure the experience is somewhat balanced across players, where you have to set up for what could be a real life decade plus long continuous storyline and so drastically branching pathways that actually have any meaningful impact on the story can snowball into a ton of additional future work. and all games are different - just because one game features something good doesn’t mean it is feasible or even suitable for another. I love to spitball ideas for the game, I think it’s fun, but the truth is that it’s easy to say things and much harder to actually implement them.
