Elise was surprisingly chill on the matter. Odessa didnât know whether to be grateful or curious. Though honestly, she was tired as hell at the moment so if she was going to be curious, itâd have to wait till tomorrow.
Thank you but youâre not a bitch. Â âNo, I am,â Odessa said with a bobbing head, sure of the matter and not wanting Elise to deny it for the sake of making the conversation more pleasant. Itâs not like Odessa had distaste for the label either. Itâs just what she had a tendency for being from time to time. She didnât feel strongly about it.
Can I ask you something? Odessa didnât expect Elise to have a question but she wasnât against it. âYeah, shoot.â She was in the wrong between the both of them so she wasnât opposed to giving Elise more of her time or answers depending on what Elise asked. Whatâs going on with you and Izzy? Aaaand suddenly she wanted to take back what she said a second ago. Donât shoot. Aim that question somewhere else. Odessa licked her lips, glancing to the side momentarily as she thought of what to say on the spot. If she wasnât here apologizing, she would have said âno, I donât feel comfortable telling youâ but given everything, Odessa felt Elise deserved something. Especially after what she did.
âWeâre justâ really close,â she settled for saying. âProbably closer than we should be right now.â It was an answer without getting into it. While Odessa was appreciative that Elise accepted her apology, she didnât think she owed the blonde a more thorough explanation than that either. âItâs fine though. We worked it out.â Not exactly but Odessa wanted this part of the conversation to be done with.
Immediately Elise felt that guilty pit in the bottom of her stomach, it really wasnât any of her business what Odessa or Izzy were up to, let alone up to together and the last thing she wanted was others to start getting into her own dark business but all the films she saw told her this was part of bonding, right? Finding a similarity, a connection and maybe she and Odessa would lock eyes and have that moment of recognition, that they werenât that different in the end.Â
âOkay, iâm sorry for asking. I just, I donât know, I guess I wanted context.â It did seem like the situation at the party had more to do with Odessa and Izzy than Elise herself. âIâm glad things are good now.â
The jungle air seemed to still only when it seemed Elise ran out of things to say, like the universe wanted to make her awkward moments more awkward.
âI canât speak for you of course, but for me, I know itâs hard to balance like, needed to socialize because sanity or whatever and self-preservation.â Eliseâs whole strategy since school had been to protect herself and others by closing the world off, met with more light of her laptop than sunlight and now, being a recluse wasnât an option. âIâm sorry if this is weird to hear and awkward, but I really like that you take control of things like this, how you take action on things. I think itâs really cool.âÂ
