grew up in nebraska with his sister, mother, and his father until he was thirteen and they divorced. he sided with his mother because his father was unfaithful, but also because they never did see eye to eye
he always had a good ear for music, while his sister (and one of his best friends) had the talent with her voice, lyrics, and guitar - he had with mixing sounds together, putting music to words, and finding lyrics to fill in the blanks or flow together. he would write songs, mix beats, and taught himself more and more until he was producing solid stuff.
after he graduated he stuck around to work and save money, further developing his skills. when ryan was finally discovered he followed her to nashville and that's where both of their careers took off.
he met salem in nashville, they quickly became his person and they eventually moved in together. they are definitely an added light to his life and he truly loves her but marriage worries him especially after watching his mom and sister's marriages fall apart.
elijah works a lot, even brings it home with him to the studio he has there. after her divorce, ryan moved in with salem and eli - he doesn't mind, at least there he knows she's safe and he wins getting his two favorite people in his house.
he is often mistaken for being in a bad mood or apathetic but it couldn't be farther from the truth. sure there's plenty of melancholy in his life but there's plenty of happiness and silly moments too.
currently he is an indpenedent producer, hired by artists and record labels to come mix albums with those who need a special touch. if he has time he offers services to up and coming artist he thinks have a lot of potential
he also has a side band that meets very inconsistently that mostly does silly/nerdy songs and covers that they post on youtube for fun

Sometimes their schedules clashed and that meant finding time to spend together where they could. Salem was welcome at the studio whenever they wanted to stop by, provided the artist wasn't in need of solo time. That did not happen all that often, however. Other times, it meant him dropping into the tattoo shop with lunch, dinner, or some coffee and a snack. A lot of his love was shown that way, through caregiving and doing things that would hopefully help the other. Being useful in some way or another made Elijah feel accomplished. That evening it was dinner. He'd left the studio around six and picked something up for both of them when he'd heard she was working late.
Moving into the shop with the bags in hand, he gave a quick nod to the front counter person and went straight back to Salem's station. Coming behind them he placed a gentle hand on their back and bent down to give them a quick kiss on the temple. "How's it going?" He felt particularly lucky to have caught her in between clients, it meant they could eat the food while it was warm. "I come bearing gifts." The producer held up the bag and sat down to start pulling things out.
In a surprise to no one, Ryan's been making a lot of impulsive decisions lately. Divorcing her husband, dropping a surprise album, extending her tour by four months, selling her house — the latest in a long list comes in the from of a harlequin Great Dane puppy, with paws too big and ears too long for him who is happy to chew on the laces of Ryan's shoes. "Of course I can handle it. This is like... a good thing. He'll keep me busy while I'm here." Because the last thing the blonde needs is too much free time on her hands. If she's got free time, her mind can start to wander and if her mind starts to wander she might go getting all sad again and right now she just can't deal with that. She's done with that chapter of her life, ready to move on and start fresh with a puppy instead of a man. "His name's Reggie. And we won't be here long — we'll be out of your guest room before he even has a chance to look at your shoe collection."
"Ry," he sighed and held his hands up defensively. "This is me just playing devil's advocate, but aren't you busy enough with the music and promotions and all that?" Unless she planned on taking a real break and spending some time healing from all the shit she'd gone through the past couple years. Elijah watched the puppy play with the laces on his sister's shoes. It was a losing game, trying to be sensible presented with soft spots at every turn. First, a cute baby animal of any kind but especially this puppy with the floppiest ears he'd ever seen in his life. Reggie kind of reminded how he felt as a teenager before he'd hit his first growth spurt. Oversized limbs, ears that stuck out, but it also made him wonder just what size this dog would be at the same time - if his height was anything to go off. Last, and probably the most prominent, was his little sister and his inability to ever deny her much of anything. At a time like the present, especially. "You and Reggie can stay as long as you need to. Just as long as I don't have to babysit." He was way too busy for that lately. "I'll get a lock for my collection," he mumbled and scratched the back of his head. Eli motioned for the door so they could go inside. "How was tour?"

Carson had been fortunate to be raised in an accepting family, so his identity as a proud, bisexual black man was something he embraced. His parents hadn't even flinched the first time he'd passively mentioned attraction to a cute man he'd seen on the TV, just as simply as he would for a woman.
He loved getting out in the community, and The Tin Roof was one of his favourite places, especially around Pride Month. Lottie went all out. He casually leaned against the bar, sipping a light beer as he watched the performer on stage. "What do you think?" he asked, leaning to speak to the person at his side. "Do you think the costume is too much? I wanted to have a little fun, y'know?" He wore a cowboy hat, a bandana around his neck, obviously no shirt, and a pair of fitted jeans. His torso and tattoos were on full display.
"I think costumes are meant to be a little much, right? Then what's the point in dressing up?" If Elijah dressed up he was sure to make a spectacle of it, mostly because he had very strong outgoing women in his life to help support him through. "I think you should have a little fun out and about. Seems like everyday is a party in downtown music city, yeah?" At least that was his experience with it. Ever since he moved to Nashville, following Ryan because she was chasing her dream and he was inspired to do the same. It was a whole new world of difference than their sleepy hometown back in Nebraska. This city never felt like it slept and in the heart it was always filled with music. It was a big reason he moved to Berry Hill so he could at least manage some sleep at night. "I'm Elijah by the way, I don't think I've seen you around before." Not that it was hard in a city of that size. He offered the other man his hand to shake.
Of course he was excited his sister made it through the tour and was back, safe and sound. However, she brought with her a surprise that wasn't some cool trinket or discovery she found in her travels. Or food, part of Eli was really hoping for some amazing salt water taffy or something. "You know I love you and I love animals, but are you sure you, um, you're going to be able to handle a puppy right now?" He asked with some concern. There was no way Elijah had the time to chase after a puppy all day he was just brought in on a new album and was just wrapping up another one. Salem was working long hours at the shop with their apprenticeship. Not that he thought Ryan would drop the ball but he worried about what was going to happen if she was pulled out on tour in another few months or got the inspiration to start making another record. "I don't mind having this adorable thing around. Wait, okay, first things first - what are we calling this little dude?"
