not in a "there's no way either of these are true" way, like I could absolutely rationalize both of them (maybe toriel doesn't normally lock the door and so kris has no reason to carry a key, maybe she really does expect they'll be able to find her or at least call her in the event that they get locked out, maybe they do have a key but they forgot it, maybe toriel's relaxed enough over the last couple days that she doesn't feel the need to constantly check in when they're late, maybe kris texted her to say they would be out late, maybe she genuinely was distracted enough that the time got away from her without her noticing, etc etc), but in a "I don't believe we actually have enough evidence of these things to say either is definitively true" way

like, we know that part of whatever plan kris has going on is going to the dark worlds. they (presumably) tell susie they don't have a key without any prompting from us. I feel like it's not that much of a stretch to think that they might intentionally be giving us no other choice than to go to the church. and checking the cell phone at any point after the solo soul segment just prompts the same message about everything having been erased, and we know that it cannot send or receive calls while in the dark world, so we kind of have like.. very little information to go off of there.
