1126 DESIGN

Last night I cut the circular walnut table top out of the square piece I had glued up earlier. I used a plunge router with my home made circle guide. It is an easy way to cut a very accurate circle.

I designed a new logo over the weekend. Since a lot of what I do is woodworking I wanted the logo to have some relation to that. I chose to make the badge shaped like a circular saw blade. I am pretty excited about the result since I didn't have any previous experience with Adobe Illustrator. After I made the logo I used the laser cutter to make a rubber stamp with the design. The image above is the stamped image on paper.

I need to get some better shots but here is a shot of the desk assembled and set up.

I made some custom brackets to attach the legs to the table top. Since I don't want a cross bar under the desk I needed some sturdy brackets. I used a 4"x4" mild steel angle bar that I cut into angled pieces to match up with the angle on the legs.

I just cut the pieces for the X-legs and here they are laid out the way they will be glued up.

Here is the table top all glued up. Next up will be sanding it.

I have started a new project to build a new desk for my home office. The desk will have a modern design but I will incorporate some reclaimed wood from an old barn to give it a bit of a rustic feel as well. I love mixing new and old. The table top will be a simple 1 inch thick maple board. The legs will be X shaped and thick, approximately 5” by 5”. I will make the legs by gluing together 5 3/4” boards from an old barn. The front and back sides will be sanded smooth while the sides will be left rough.
