This may be an unpopular opinion, but English should be America’s default national language.
This isn’t an attack on multilingualism. People should absolutely learn multiple languages. But a country needs a shared baseline so commerce and basic communication actually function.
It doesn’t require fluency—just basic English.
Small businesses under 50 employees might get limited flexibility, but even then, the goal should be participation, not permanent exception.
And here’s the part many dodge:
Illegal immigrants who are otherwise law-abiding should be fast-tracked to citizenship if they learn proficient English.
Common language. Clear standards. Real integration.
