comfortable silence is so overrated

i really enjoyed reading about miko, starting from the relocation of her family to korea when she was eight. it felt so natural, especially when i read ‘though there are times she processes her thoughts in korean, having lived there for so long.’ little details like this are what kept me wanting to know more and more about her. like the fact that her mom is a high fashion model, which inspired miko to enter the fashion industry too.

her aspirations of writing for a fashion and beauty magazine, ultimately becoming editor-in-chief, have me hearteyes af, and suddenly i can’t think of a better career path for the coquette. though fashion blogger in her own right is a good one to choose if i had to, but i didn’t because it’s already true. and, tbh, i’ve definitely envisioned the coquette as an influencer sort of type, so i love knowing that she’s got that going on!

thriving off attention is the epitome of the coquette, which rings true for miko too. i feel smitten just reading about her. and, even more than loving that she loves attention, i love that she’s willful and selfish when she’s not getting her way. i also love every detail between the mentioned connections, and it feels like you’ve got a good grasp on where miko falls into place. i feel like she’s a fantastic addition to the current cast.

the first thing that grabbed me was actually before i even got to the headcanons, seeing that sooah is a psychology student. with the caretaker being noted as the most nurturing and dependable one of the group, i absolutely love the idea of her becoming a psychiatrist. not only do i find it to be a well suited pick for the caretaker by itself, but i also like that it somewhat ties in with her mom, whose also in the medical field.

the family dynamic fills in each blank; the idea that her dad left, but they distantly stay in touch, is the perfect detail in support of why it was mostly sooah on her own. the added thought of her aunt helping out when sooah was younger brings such a fuller aspect to the background provided in the skeleton — i can picture a scene from her childhood so easily and how, over time, she would slowly become more self sufficient. 

i love that she owns being the dependable one, and takes pride in it, but knowing that she’s afraid of being eventually abandoned is so upsetting! it does make a lot of sense to me though, after being such a willing listener to others for so long, that she would find herself clinging to it. in some ways, it’s a big part of who she is, so her having that taken away would essentially be like taking away a little piece of her.

the way sooah rejects being vulnerable and confiding in others made me laugh from the irony, but it’s so accurate of what i imagined of the caretaker. getting a deeper glimpse into sooah’s heartache, while knowing that she’s one hundred percent keeping all these thoughts and feelings to herself, made me empathize so much. i can’t wait to see how things progress in the group with both sooah and her connections. ♥

so seamlessly, i was pulled in by the apt descriptions of who the overachiever is as a person, ‘his smiles, though warm and honest, always appear worn, his fingers always stained in ink, eyes red and weary with late nights and dimly flickering bedside lamps.’ and that’s literally just the beginning. each new description falls into place as perfectly as the last and i found myself feeling like i didn’t really know the character until now. 

some of my other favorite traits that scream the overachiever to me are him being hard on himself and difficult to get through to, the reminders to sit up straight, reheating coffee mugs, long-winded questions with the focus on the other person — and i love the idea of him carrying around his battered notebook, full of reminders and memos. the overachiever is such a detail-oriented person, and everything about jiho proves it.

the way he looks up to his dad, and knows what’s going on even when he’s not told, demonstrates the relationship that i had in mind for the two so well. and once i hit the interests, well, the overachiever was always going to be an avid reader in my mind, but the fact that he’s into writing as well (and not just academically) suits him. the idea of him writing poetry on his skin in sharpie is such a cute and endearing detail! 

reading jiho thrive with the papers scattered about, a room anyone but him would consider an unorganized mess, made me feel just at home as he was. meeting his dad in the middle of the night felt like a familiar scene, one i’m sure they encounter often. as he contemplated finishing what work he had to do, versus going to his friends, and when he chose the latter i felt actual relief. i can’t wait to see him have some fun! ♥

i’ve got to admit, i was really drawn to the way you began with all the names that sam’s been known as, and once i got to the line ‘with so many names, so many identities, it’s no wonder sam yearns to become an actor.’ i was hooked. being the propped up son, expected to take over for his dad, while preferring to lounge around with his mom watching dramas is everything i’ve ever wanted the performer to be. 

the complexity of his family situation suits the character so well and in such an interesting way. comparing him to a songbird in a cage, meant to sing the song that his father chose for him and that song only, illustrates just how suffocating life at home was. the way his father intentionally sent him away for school, and the fact that his plan kind of worked for a while, feels like it’s how things would really play out. 

my absolute favorite part was when sam realized how he’d let the chains of his father weigh him down, so he left the cage for good. reading the line ‘now there’s no mother or father to ask who lai chansam is, so you’ll have to ask his new friends.’ filled me with so much excitement, which only grew as i read about sam’s connections within the group. it really shows that you have a clear idea of where sam fits in with the others.

the way sam has an outfit for his casting calls makes it seem like a familiar routine, as it should be. having the privilege of knowing how he’s feeling and what he’s thinking during the audition feels like i’m able to sneak a glance into the room. sam’s ability to maintain his professionalism, even after essentially being told no, tell me that he has the determination that’s needed to go far. i can’t wait to see him succeed! ♥
