i’m gonna say ,  from the age of 12 ,  Eggsy began showing an interest in religion ,  in the notion of an afterlife ,  meaning behind tragedy etc.   ————-   in particular Islam ,  and while he didn’t say the Shahada and convert officially ,  Eggsy showed a strong willingness to adopt Islam’s way of life ,  as well as building up his own belief system .

then ,  it all kinda went tits up   ————-   Dean entered the Unwin family’s lives when Eggsy was 15 ,  and his negative influence ,  as well as the psychological and physical abuse towards Eggsy tore most of his interests down .   his grades began to slip ,  he got involved with the wrong crowds ,  turned towards drink and petty crime .   he let himself spiral ,  moreso because he also thought of Dean in comparison to Lee ,  and how much he missed the latter ,  emphasised by the presence of the former .    and consequently ,  distanced himself from the relationship he had established with religion .   went from loosely practising to nit - picking ,  to not practising at all .

as he grew older ,  the negativity in his life didn’t dissipate ,  unfortunately   ————-   but he did manage to establish a decent ,  loyal ,  supportive group of friends that became his strongest network .   one of the boys in this group ,  Jamal ,  reminded Eggsy of his previous connection to Islam ,  and once again ,  through association alone ,  Eggsy began to question his relationship with religion ,  rekindling his deep - rooted admiration for it .

finally ,  as a Kingsman ,  at 25 ,  Eggsy converted   ————-   informing his mother ,  and his friends ,  and trying to continue on as a Muslim   …   which ,  given his strong habit of drinking ,  and his love of bacon ,  wasn’t easy .   it’s been a rocky start ,  with Jamal and Eggsy navigating the Islamic world together ,  sometimes with chaotic results   !!   but Eggsy aimed to get better ,  improve as he went along ,  even if there are aspects of the religion he doesn’t necessarily agree with .

connecting strongly with Islam helped Eggsy grieve properly for his father ,  in the end   —   in a healthy manner .
