so i binge watched invader zim all in one day and finished the whole season. the fact that there isn’t any more saddens me beyond even my own disgusting human comprehension.

They have surprised me in a GOOD way here for once
one of the many many great things about the character animation in invader zim is that you see characters communicating nonverbally/reading each others’ faces in social interaction. in voting of the doomed zim outright says that he was reading dib’s facial expression
it contributes to willing suspension of disbelief because of course in real life the purpose of facial expressions is to communicate with other people, and not to pull funny faces for the audience. when you see characters communicate through facial expression like this it makes them feel more real
({am i the only one that thinks deep down, zim wanted dib as a friend? but because he was an “invader” he could be friends with him, i mean they can get along pretty well sometimes and even work together})
ok the saddest part of mopiness of doom for me is when zim goes up to dib and starts ranting at him like ‘this is our time at lunch when we yell at each other ^w^’ and dib just shuts him down and leaves and he’s STANDING THERE ALL ALONE
the thing is that zim is incredibly alone and starved for attention but he hates the idea of needing people and is opposed to forming friendships but dib is like a ‘safe’ relationship because he can interact with dib and care about what dib is doing without having to actually take on having a bond/friendship with someone (because they’re enemies) and without having to admit that he’s lonely and needs people
and gir is also a ‘safe’ relationship because he’s a robot and a possession so it’s okay to bond with him because ‘oh he’s not really my friend/beloved assistant that i somehow eternally forgive for being trash and keep near me all the time, he’s really just my SIR unit’ and the tallest are miles away from zim in social status and will always be somewhat distant so it’s okay for him to fawn all over them because he doesn’t have to actually open up to them and
