"The opposite of depression is not happiness, but vitality, and it was vitality that seemed to seep away from me in that moment." In a talk equal parts eloquent and devastating, writer Andrew Solomon takes you to the darkest corners of his mind during the years he battled depression. That led him to an eye-opening journey across the world to interview others with depression -- only to discover that, to his surprise, the more he talked, the more people wanted to tell their own stories.
Ted Talk that we discussed in psychology that i found very interesting and very encouraging on the subject of depression.
Third Entry 27/07/2016
I have learned a few useful tips and tricks on how to use the word, excel, and other programming from the CIT course. i knew mostly all that was taught, its not hard to know this in this age and era. Yet the course added to a few subtle benefits that i could see myself using in the recent future in my endeavors at University.Â
Second Entry, 13/07/2016
My favorite Subject is the end of the day, where i don’t have to attend any of this non sensory & actually go do something useful like work, currently I am working as an odd job man, most of the work i get these days is mainly demolition or construction. I get paid 8 pounds an hour, which is quite cheap and low but puts a few extra pounds in my pocket as well as teaching me new skills and knowledge, unlike this college were i paid a fortune to learn nothing but to regurgitate what I’m told, and to think that actually helps my future and to consider myself lucky.
I feel satisfied with my work cause for the first time in my 3 year attempt to get into uni, i have ignored that fact that i will learn nothing out of this experience, and gain only a paper that certifies me to be paid more than other people without this paper. I am satisfied because despite all my hatred for the education system of today, on top of that the insult it brings to learning as a philosophy and the hatred in bestows upon me. Despite all this i am determined to plough through it all to end it once and for all then get on with my life, and chase my dreams as every human should.
I have overcome my difficulties through pure will power and determination for better days ahead, i have been helped by my girlfriend Liz Carter who has been lovely company in my life in general, teaching me to take life slowly and to enjoy the simpler, smaller things in life, the important things. Educationally Louis Pike has been a nice influence, a cheerful spirit, and a motivational person to keep me going. Throughout the days i have always enjoyed the pleasant smiles, waves, and good morning from Anita the attendance Officer who made me think that maybe some people in this college are alright after all.
At the end, I am quite proud to say that this year i have pulled myself out of extraordinary circumstances, battling Depression, Bi Polarity, Educational failure, and letting down the expectations of what i could have done with my life but no more, I live to seize the day, to make most out of every moment and every friend. To have a laugh, make memories and enjoy life.Â
Evaluating the course, It is almost bearable, almost ... It does what its supposed to, which is just to get you into university and that is all that matters to me. The college here is not acceptable at all compared to what we pay, but it is how it is.
First Entry, 29/06/2016
I arrived at Bellerbys 3 weeks late due to visa issues, I landed in the UK around 20th-25th of January. I was shown around the college by a lovely women called Anita, very friendly, very sweet, and funny.
I quickly caught up to the first semester which was quite difficult as i was playing from behind the whole term. As well as having to study most of that semester on my own as i was behind the whole class. Thankfully i pulled through and achieved high marks considering my obstacles.
My feels and expectations about were jumbled up about the college of Bellerbys as I honestly expected more from the teachers and the curriculum as well as the rules and regulations. The college made me feel boxed in by their teaching methods & their marking schemes for their exams. Their regulations made us feel like children, not knowing how to act in a public space, and that we needed herding.
The workload was fine to understand and regurgitate although they were quite strict in their marking, boxing us in to a copy and paste style of education from the text book and anything that explains the curriculum in another method than their terminology in their texts would be shot down. Â Â Â Â
