offrankiism:
âMate, I bet it wonât be soââ Frowning at the contents of the cauldron, Frank didnât need to retrace steps to know that they were wrong somewhere. ââŚNothing to worry about though. Weâll fix it. Now whereâs that bookâŚ.?â The boy trailed off, looking for his textbook.
The potion had turned a bright purple colour, which didnât immediately seem horrible, but - it was supposed to be green. Normally he got by just fine in Potions - he didnât excel by any means, but he was decent - and knowing theyâd screwed up caused his forehead to crease. âFucking hell,â he muttered, wanting to crawl back into bed. âNothing to worry about? I know youâre optimistic mate, but letâs face it - itâs a surprise the cauldron hasnât already melted.â
katrinabelby:
âIt would, yes, which is the only reason I havenât done it already.â That was a lie. Despite what she - very poorly - threatened, Katrina would never out another personâs feelings to their intended recipient. It would make it an entirely different difficult situation than it already was, especially for Edgar. âIâm sure you are used to it. Seeing as how idiotic youâre acting about this, it doesnât surprise me in the least.â His question caught her off guard. How did she know? âHave you ever heard yourself drunk, that you can remember?â
âYou flatter me Katrina. From threats to saying Iâm acting idiotic, itâs a wonder we donât have more heart to hearts,â he replied with a flat tone, keeping a stoic face. Heâd be happy if he never talked to anyone about his feelings ever again. Mostly because he was aware enough to know that she was right, but that didnât mean he wanted to be told that. At her next question, he paused slightly, lips drawing in. âAh - not really.â Thankfully. âThough Iâve been told Iâm a riot when Iâm drunk, thank you.â
emmclines:
âWould you really expect anything less from me?â Sure, he did a number of questionable things, and she may call him on those things frequently, but she still held him to a slightly higher standard than most people. âOh, yes. Who wouldnât want to have to navigate around your giant head, while also dodging bludgers?â
âI canât imagine who, as a matter of fact. People should feel honoured to fly around my head - which is only giant when itâs in statue form, thank you. But really, the game could use something new, and Iâm just trying to help. As always, I only have the best intentions.â Though he fully knew itâd be far more inconvenient than anything, who didnât entertain the idea of a large statue of themselves?
âYeah, yeah no, I totally get you. Youâre not wrong, but considering the circumstancesâŚmaybe you need to reconsider your options there.â
âYeah mate, I know Iâm not wrong.â Staring down at his cauldron with a pinched forehead, Edgar felt his head slowly tilt to the side. âI mean - I donât think I did it wrong. I rarely do. Did I?â

âOnly when youâre greatly exaggerating the thing thatâs put you in the infirmary.â It wasnât a stretch. How many times in all their time together had Edgar slightly s t r e t c h e d the truth, for little more than a gasp or reaction? âAnd I regret it already. In fact, Iâm going to take it back. It never happened. I donât have the faintest idea what youâre talking about.â Though she tried to keep a straight face, she couldnât help the small hints of a smile that forced their way through. ââM surprised you havenât thought it would make them the perfect companion for you. After all, if they donât want any, itâs just more for you.â His suggestion of finding a solution to that problem, if it were even a problem, intrigued her. ââExactly - some. I figured it would have long run out by now. Weâve said pie more than three times, and yet, here you stand.â
âIâve no idea what youâre talking about. I never exaggerate anything, let alone something so important. Do you always make up lies about me?â Eyebrows raising in mock surprise, he did his best to keep a straight face, surprised at how well heâd kept it up so far. âRude. Making up stuff once again, youâre on a bit of a roll.â That was okay though - it was permanently ingrained in her brain no matter how many future times sheâd deny it ever happened. âThatâs a good point - Iâll have to keep that in mind, I suppose. Also pertains if they like flavours of pie that I donât. Strawberry rhubarb, for instance. They can keep that one.â Pie was a gift, but not every kind was on the same playing field. âExactly. Are you proud of me?â
âWha- I- No! I most certainly am not! Deciding for you would be my running off to tell her, leaving you here to await whatever happens.â Katrina could feel herself getting more flustered, more annoyed at his accusation. Really, she just wanted to help. It wasnât often she had conversations of the sort with others, but when she did, she tended to be vehement in her opinions. âYou canât run from these things forever, and you know that. You canât sit there and try to suppress feelings - feelings that are very clearly there. Youâre an idiot if you think youâre fooling everyone.â
âWell that would be a little rude,â Edgar huffed, ignoring how much anxiety he felt at the possibility of that scenario. Emmeline finding out from him was bad enough, but from someone else? Disastrous. âYouâd think calling me an idiot would have some effect but Iâm very used to it Iâm afraid.â Rightfully so, the majority of the time. âSure I can. I can run from whatever Iâm want, Iâm actually in pretty decent shape. Youâd be surprised. But hell, how do you know I canât surpress them? You seem to have very strong opinions on my capabilities.â
me: guys⌠donât worry, iâll handle this

Eyes closed and a cloak of grey surrounding her, Gwen stood with her back pressed against the Hogwarts castle. It had taken her time to find the perfect smoking spot, somewhere she could nurse cigarette after cigarette without being bothered. With another long inhale, she released a breath of smoke and nearly smiled - until she heard a twig snap only feet away.Â
Her eyes flew open and the intruder was immediately met with Gwenâs piercing gaze and a still-burning cigarette flicked in their direction. âOi, fuck off somewhere else, would you?â
Technically, he should have been in Transfiguration - but he was far from in the mood to sit in a class, and History of Magic had been hard enough to get through. Instead Edgar found himself mindlessly wandering the grounds, hoping to not run into a Professor or Prefect of any sort. Not that theyâd be surprised at this point. Hearing a voice, his head immediately snapped in that direction, immediately grinning at the face he was met with.Â
âCheerful as always, I see.â Some things never changed, at least. âRelax Gwen, I was just walking around - not trying to interrupt you or anything.â
â âi fail to see how that was my fault. â
âWell youâre the one who put the last ingredient in, and now our potion is bubbling over, so I fail to see how itâs not your fault.â

âAww, did i hurt your feelings?â
âYouâd have to try a lot harder than that to hurt my feelings, Sirius. Donât flatter yourself.â
âIs it, Edgar? Is it really unfair? Or is that being generous, not making them go through the ropes of seeing you multiple times a week, having to listen to your ridiculous antics?â As soon as he began to grin, Emmeline regretted what she had said. She should have known better, really; he could hear her say something nice and would latch onto it, refusing to let it go for Merlin only knew how long. âYou  m i s s e d the whole point of that, didnât you?â Waving a hand, Emmeline dismissed his cheeky grin and tried to move past it. âWhat happens when you finally fall for someone and they donât like pie? What happens when theyâre one of the people who have gone and fallen so easily for you?â She knew too well how unlikely that was. Edgar didnât do relationships; the closest he had been was when he and Lily had dated a few years previously. Since then, though, she hadnât cared enough to pay attention to how many flings heâd taken part in. ââM surprised you havenât tried to get to the kitchens by now for some.â
âAre you saying that seeing me multiple times a week is a bad thing? That wounds me, Emmeline. Here I thought you genuinely enjoyed my company. Years of friendship and suddenly I have to reevaluate everything.â Laughing as she attempted to dismiss the topic at hand, he nodded slightly. âYeah, I usually do. But hey - you did say it.â Any sort of compliment from her was clung to, anyways. âIf they donât like pie, how could they ever like me? Itâs an extension of me, a part of me. You gotta enjoy it to be in my life. Or, you know, theyâll learn to love it. Weâll find some sort of solution.â Not that he was keen on thinking about falling for anyone at all. Best to avoid thinking about it, let alone talking about it. How girls did it all the time was beyond him. Feelings were far too annoying to be properly acknowledged. âI do have some self-restraint, you know. Not a lot, but some.â
âOh, I was taking you into account when I said that. If you wouldnât try it, surely nobody else would,â she teased. Emmeline knew better than to think Edgar would ever be silly enough to try it - the fight they would put up wouldnât be worth the pain it would cause him. For a moment, she stared at him, then shook her head gently. âYes, because convincing them that it should be larger than the castle is exactly what the hard part would be. Not getting it done in the first place, or having it put on the pitch.â
âIâm glad that Iâm your barometer for what stupid things people would do.â Rightfully so, at least. He was prone to making terrible decisions, despite having the best intentions. At least he tried. âPlease, getting it on the pitch would be easy. They can even incorporate it into the game, I wouldnât mind. They might just be hesitant that it would outshine the school in all its glory, yâknow.â
âNot even if thereâs the slightest chance of reciprocation?â She had never felt more irritation over a subject than she currently did - not even when it came to discussing Charms. âNo. What you donât do is hide something from someone you care about. You donât get to decide what you think is best for them, just because you care. You donât get to decide what makes them happy. You speak your mind, you put yourself out there, and you live with the consequences.â
âOi, arenât you deciding for me right now? If I donât want to tell her, thatâs up to me. If I do tell her, thatâll by my decision. One that I wonât be making, since I already have.â How did he get himself into this conversation? He didnât talk about things, especially not things like this. Eyebrows raising slightly in disbelief, he couldnât help but jokingly scoff. âConsequences? You know me better by now than to think I would ever live with those.â

âYeah, thatâs why it wonât be Pomfrey who tells you. Itâll be someone you havenât seen at least once or twice every week or two.â A smile spread across her face as she attempted to conceal another laugh. âSure, not EVERYONE is immune. But do you really want someone who falls so  e a s i l y for a brilliant smile and silly jokes?â She raised her eyebrows expectantly. âI would never. It would be pointless to even consider it, as you couldnât be boring if your life depended on it. Youâre too stubborn. Once you got drunk? Edgar, you wouldnât need to drink to get to that point. The moment you see pie, your eyes light up. Merlin help the person that falls for you - theyâre going to have a hell of a time coming between you and the love of your life.â
âWell thatâs just unfair, because then theyâll know nothing about me. I never took you for being unfair, Emmeline.â Immediately grinning at her words, it quickly warped into a cheeky grin - an expression he wore far too often. âBrilliant smile, eh? Iâm flattered. Any other comments you want to throw my way? My ears are wide open.â Despite how often he complimented himself, it always felt great hearing it from other people. Especially her. âTrue - I have a brilliant smile, silly jokes, and Iâm never boring. What a catch. Even if I have an undying love for pie. People come and go, but pie? Pie is forever. Until you eat it, and then you just make another one.â
âI donât think anything in this world would be idiotic enough to try something like that.â Alice had been the one person Emmeline hadnât tried to push away - ever. Many late nights had been spent sat together in one bed, Alice pulling all nighters when she could have easily shrugged Emmeline off without a second thought. But she hadnât, and for that alone, Emmeline would be eternally grateful. âWell obviously there would be pie. I couldnât refuse you that much. The statute, however, may take a bit of time. And convincing.â
âA bold statement, considering how many idiots weâre surrounded by. Take a look at who youâre talking to, for instance - but I would never try because I donât have a death wish.â Edgar undoubtedly did many, many stupid things but even he had a line that wouldnât be crossed. Besides, heâd never do anything thatâd make her unhappy, which Alice definitely did. âConvincing? The only convincing thatâll need to be done is âno, thatâs a bit too large, it shouldnât be taller than the castleâ.â
