prudence lit the candles and breathed in and out three times. she had an assortment of psuedoscience paraphernalia on the table in front of her. a luigi board, a couple of maglites and a spirit box. she was ready, at long last, to make proper contact. if things got too real she had a container of himalayan pink salt next to her. she figured itâd work the same, if not better, since it was far prettier than regular, boring salt.
originally, she wanted to drape a scarf or two over the lamps to create the proper aesthetic for the task before her, but the power outage had crossed that off her list on how to properly welcome a ghost. luckily, she had just pulled the sugar cookies out of the oven before it all went out. sheâd read once when staging a place it was good to have the smell of cookies permeating the space, to make it seem more hospitable and help potential buyers imagine living there. she figured the same must be true of a ghost. a nice way to lure it from its upstairs residence and visit the neighbors (her).
âoh spirit,â she started to intone when eden walked into the front door. she smiled up at her in small welcome. âi hope youâve not just been possessed.â
The main thought on their mind as Eden climbed the stairs up to the apartment was a nice hot shower. It might be hot outside but Sinnerâs Cove needed hot water to be washed off properly. That thought had barely crossed their mind when the lights crackled and flickered off, causing Eden to lose their footing and let out a squeak of surprise as they grabbed onto the rail to stop herself falling down the stairs. A fucking cold shower, then. That was fine. Or lukewarm, or whatever temperature the pipes decided to spit out at them as long as it was clean.
Of course, one should never rule out the possibility of walking into a sĂŠance when arriving home. And showers really should wait until sĂŠances are completed.
Eden barely blinked at the scene, though they did tilt their head to the side, considering. âWould a possessed person tell you that theyâre possessed, though? They might be scared of being exorcised.â They walked a circle around Prueâs set up, looking at it all with intrigue. âYou should have asked Mom for some quartz. Who am I potentially possessed by?â It was a pseudoscience that they didnât believe in but theyâd spent enough of their life around their Mom and around Prudence to just go along with it by now.
