Thinking about how Garak probably saw his birthday as a reminder of an existence that was an inconvenience. An existence that was never wanted, a living error turned into an instrument, a shadow, a weapon at the mercy of the person who never planned to love you. A life made with no intent to nurture it.

I know Julian wouldn't be a villain but just imagine for a second that he is. Augmented without his consent as a child and forced to keep it a deadly secret his whole life while people like him are called a monster and less than human. Struggling to make and keep friends, struggling to keep a mask on and when a changling replaces him, nobody notices. Then the augmentations are revealed and legally nothing happens to him, was it all then for nothing? I think he could very easily snap and it would be valid. Garak wouldn't want Julian to tread this path, would want to keep his hands clean, but after some convincing he would join him to keep him safe. And who could hope stop an augmented human and Cardassian ex spy?
