I am gay and I am Muslim. This crime hurts me in so many ways.
My faith was not responsible for this crime. This man was. The Quran and the hadith are clear. He committed a horrific atrocity againist innocent people during the holiest month and then killed himself so he would not face justice in this world. I hope Allah (swt) will judge him severely and swiftly. I hope the victims will find peace, and this criminal will pay.
And I see you. The hypocrites blaming my faith. Trying to convince me Islam is my enemy. You are my enemy - the ones who make me choose between my faith and my sexuality. You are my enemy - the conservative Christians who tell me I am an abomination or a predator. You are my enemy - the atheists and ex-religious who leap at the chance to blame Islam and not homophobia - who were silent in the face of my oppression when the oppressorâs name was familiar and his skin was white.
But I also see you, the Muslims who say âIslam would never condone this.â Because you are right. ISLAM WOULD NEVER CONDONE THIS. But YOU did. When you were silent when we cried for acceptance. When we told you we were afraid to come out to our families. When you made us choose our faith vs. our sexuality. When we told you the Quran and hadith do not condemn homosexuality but you insisted it did. When you insisted that you âloved the sinner and not the sinâ - not realizing that you cannot separate who I love from who I am. When you allowed the homophobia to fester, the kind of poison that compels one of our own to go to a gay nightclub and slaughter us like animals.
I am not your toy or your political tool. I am not an abomination. I am not haraam. I am a person. I want to live, I want to love, I want to feel safe in this world. I just want to BE - without hiding aspects of who I am to feel safe.

This is on my block
I havenât seen a lot of posts that shed some positivity for non-binary Muslims who wear the hijab â I personally sometimes feel itâs frustrating that people see hijabi non-binary people as âfemaleâ just because the hijab is an obligation for women. My hijab does not define my gender; only my obligation to my God and my religion!Â
Shoutout to all non-binary hijabi Muslims out there; you are valid and Allah loves you, insya-Allah!

LGBTQ Muslims have and always will existâwe arenât haram and we arenât alone.
I know Iâve told this story before, but my abusive ex refused to let me take birth control. I was on the pill until he found them in my purse. I went to the Student Health Centerâthey were completely unhelpful, choosing to lecture me about the importance of safe sex (recommending condoms) instead of actually listening to my problem. Then I went to Planned Parenthood. The Nurse Practitioner took one look at my fading bruises and stopped the exam. She called in the doctor. The doctor came in and simply asked me: âAre you ready to leave him?â When I denied that I was being abused, she didnât argue with me. She just asked me what I needed. I said I need a birth control method that my boyfriend couldnât detect. She recommended a few options and we decided on Depo. When I told her that my boyfriend read my emails and listened to my phone messages and was known to follow me, she suggested to do the Depo injections at off hours when the clinic was normally closed. She made a note in my chart and instructed the front desk never to leave messages for meâinstead, she programmed her personal cell phone number into my phone under the name âNoraâ. She told me she would call me to schedule my appointments; she wouldnât leave a message, but I should call her back when I was able to. And that was it. No judgment. No lecture. She walked me to the door and told me to call her day or night if I needed anything. That she lived 5 blocks from campus and would come get me. That I wasnât alone. That she just wanted me to be safe. I never called her to come to my rescue. But I have no doubt that she would have come if I had called. She kept me on Depo for a year, giving me those monthly injections in secret, helping me prevent a desperately unwanted pregnancy. I cannot thank Planned Parenthood enough for the work they do.

Itâs not often that an independent designer makes ready to wear pieces akin to fine art. However, Zunyda Watson has done just that in her latest capsule collection of Zunyda. Using both the avant-garde, and the modern classics, her patterns and silhouettes merge the past with the future. Zunyda makes clothing one could imagine being worn in a kingdom of their own creation. With superior craftwork and elevated concepts, these clothes are fully functional and can be worn in an plethora of settings. This capsule collection includes 5 looks, most of which are interchangeable with other pieces from the line. This small body of work shines a light on one outstanding young designer with a bright future ahead of her.
Check out the collection at: ZUNYDA.com @zunyda

As Pakistani-Americans, we strongly urge that âLet Girls Learnâ-Pakistan Initiative to establish an Advisory Board, who has the expertise and knowledge of the education system along with the awareness of Pakistani culture; in addition to their expertise about American education system. We recommend that this Advisory Board should overlook, supervise and administer the accountability and transparency for the utilization of funds allocated towards this project, as well as structuring a partnership with existing authentic and established organizations that are involved in Pakistanâs education, for achieving âLet Girls Learnâ goals.

How to Pro-Palestine 101:
Understand this whole conflict is about land and not religion, we are not fighting over whether we should fast on Ramadan or on Yom Kippur, or fighting Israelis just because the majority of them is Jewish.Â
Understand that not all Palestinians are Muslims, about 15%-20% of Palestinians arenât.
You support Palestinians for losing their land and facing atrocities, you donât support Palestinians just because Palestine is holy to you.Â
You support all Palestinians equally, donât put Muslim Palestinians over non-Muslim Palestinians and vice-versa, we are all going through the same struggle.
Donât speak on our behalf (In other words, lead our cause), we donât want you to mess up and then we end up getting the blame. You could support us, teach about our cause but donât lead us, we lead you.
Donât support us just because you hate the Jewish people, we donât want your antisemitism.
Understand that Palestine is our land before anyone else
Donât romanticize our struggle, no itâs not cool to suffer.
Understand we also face atrocities from other Arabs not just from Israelis.
Donât turn Palestine into a Muslim issue.Â
Understand that there are diverse opinions amongst Palestinians, both in the diaspora and at home.Â
Donât use Palestine as a springboard to derail and promote your own cause.
Bringing awareness to Palestinians should not be done through grotesque means; in other words, Nazi comparisons or even spreading pictures of dead bodies everywhere.
do not try to pit christian Palestinians against muslim Palestinians or Palestinians of any other religion, and donât import your Islamaphobia into our struggle  by lending your support only to one group. we are one people you take us all or not at all
do not erase Palestinians of different races in order to present Palestine as an Arab nation when there are Arab Palestinians, afro Palestinians, Armenian Palestinians, Chechnian Palestinians, Jewish Palestinians and more
absolutely do not claim to support us if you deny the rights of other pressed groups or deny the oppression or genocide of other groups
Support Palestinians and DO NOT undermine them
You DO NOT represent Palestinians, no matter what your intentions are, and you do not need to attempt to do so in spaces that aim to create dialogue (see OTI, MLI)
Donât call yourself Pro-Palestine if youâre a Zionist, take your Liberal Zionism away and get lost.Â
Do not glorify/romanticize resistance.Â
Do not dictate Palestinians on how we should feel/react.Â
Do not criticize their method of resistance. You are not the one suffering from the consequences.Â
Donât steal our narrative.
We are not helpless victims. We do not need to be saved. So please, enough with this saviorship complex.Â
Itâs not about you.Â
Donât appropriate the Palestinian culture, you being Pro-Palestine or Arab or a Muslim doesnât give you a free pass to appropriate our culture.Â
