A little update on my last sketch. After coming back to the old guy’s design, I wasn’t liking it at all and wanted to redo him. Ended up with a sketch of this little bugger (after many iterations). Still working on him though

Very quick sketch before the idea for this guy leaves my mind

Despite the lack of any real arms, this guy is quite a capable fighter. Focused on leg power, he’s extremely agile and quick. While running, he can open his wings/cape to launch himself into the air, akin to a para-glider.

It’s really hard for me when I hear that as a concept artist, you shouldn’t get attached to the concepts you create. You get it done, and you move on.

I enjoy drawing this guy, and variations of his “species” way too much. Outer space and the cosmos has always inspired me. It’s absolutely beautiful. I understand the games and movies about flying through space, aliens, travelling the universe, etc. I wanted a character and environment that encapsulates that beauty though, not just some scaly green alien, robot, or human in a suit travelling through that beauty.

This character, that I’ve named Deyris, is that embodiment. He’s a character design that’s been with me for several years now. As a birthday present, my parents even had a plush toy of him made for me! I want to do something more with him, maybe make a game with him someday. There’s no way he can be a one and done character to me

This guy is a sort of vicious vulture that can release a deafening screech when it approaches it’s prey. The screech can be heard for several, several miles.
