So we all know the implied notion that Egon slept with the slime, BUT what if Egon and Ray have been applying their theory about moods/emotions affecting the atmosphere while using the slime. If they'd been experimenting with it with sounds (voices, music, etc.) and objects (the toaster), the next scientific step would be to test it on animals. What if one of them put the slime on themselves and--just like the love-inducing mood it produced in Ray at the museum--it had a more...sensual...effect and it wasn't the slime that Egon slept with but rather the slime leading him to have sex with Ray? Hence the look they exchange because they know the truth of it but don't want the others to know.

A whole ass couch and these nerds literally sit pressed against each other sharing cheez-its.
