120 Quiz
Hello English 120,
Please find two online news articles. From the articles, describe two vocabulary concepts, per article, that the article indirectly describes (or directly, if you can find one.) Each concept should merit a paragraph of how it was used or alluded to in the article. Remember to post the source. This is due Wednesday, October 19 (since I was late in posting this prompt). The tag below will link you via Twitter to other students who are doing this assignment. Simply open the hashtag in Twitter and it will direct you to others with that post. At least, thatâs the idea.
Erin Broderick Prof. Cardozo English 120 18, October 2016 https://www.edf.org/climate/climate-change-impacts Fluid: In this article, it talks about the affects and and causes of global warming. Global warming is when the earth and atmosphere start to warm. The weather is always changing, almost like fluid. In fact, it is always changing and moving. In the article it talks about the climate shifting and getting warmer. Also, it talks about how the frozen water, like in Antartica, is melting and causes sea level to rise. Fluid means flowing and changing. The weather is always changing and and water is flowing from the mountains and icebergs into our oceans. There is a shift in water amps which is causing habitats of animals to be altered which then pushes them to find another home. Liminal Space: Also in this article, it mentions spaces in between, but not in context. Liminal space means a space in-between people, places and things. The article describes the spaces between what is happening now and what are future is. It is the space of the unknown. Scientists can only predict what can and will or will not happen on earth because of global warming. It is a book full of pages with empty sentences. That is the liminal space described in this article.
http://fox5sandiego.com/2016/10/18/kids-chant-i-love-cops-during-el-cajon-protests/ Race Matters: In every society race should matter. Race matters means that every race is equal and should have the same respect. In this article, it talks about the el cajon shooting and the protests that have happened. In the article it specifically talks about the kids that were telling the cops that âthey love copsâ. Everyone should love cops, but do they? Of course not everyone does because the people that are in trouble don't like cops. Lately, the media has only focused on how white cops kill black people, but they don't show that most white cops are killed by back people. I believe race matters and all races matter, but if youâre breaking the law and causing trouble your going to get punished. That goes for all races. Entitlement: Also is this article, it shows how entitled the protesters fell. They want to feel above everyone else and not get punished. They don't care about other racing, only how their race is treated. Entitlement is a feeling that brings empowerment and lets that person feel as everyone owes them something. Entitlement is shown in the signs and chants they were carrying. For example, the most iconic saying is âBlack Lives Matterâ. That saying that no other race is and their lives are more important.
