I would argue that this trope is a sister to the disposable black girlfriend trope. However, instead the writers disposing of the black character, the fandom will. By using rhetoric that the black character βis in the way,β Or they βgive friend vibes,β or even lying and claiming they like the black character and as βshe deserves betterβ¦.β Than the man who dotes and loves her.

Boy Meets World β Shawn and Angelaβ¦ i despise the writers for ruining them.
Challenges β Art, Patrick and Tashiβ¦
Dune β Paul and Chaniβ¦ some people want him with his cousin Feyd-Rautha.

GENV β Marie and Jordanβ¦ the discourse about their pairing is pmo.
