Made this a week ago and never got around to posting it cuz I want to try and space out a few of my posts a bit more so I don't overwhelm myself, but alas, here it is!

This is a great month. Saw The Backrooms, Chapter Five is today, I have ten thousand drawing ideas that I will eventually get to, life is great.

Oh my God. After over 17 hours of labor, I have FINALLY FINISHED HIM!! IT'S THE GUY!! YA KNOW, THE DOOFY TOOTH GUY!!

Made this line art piece for a collaborative drawing between me and my roommate @try-onasmile . Saw this challenge on IG Reels where one person draws a sketch and line art, and the other person colors/renders it, so that's what we're doing. We drew papers from a hat for what character of ours we get to draw, and I got this fella. I'm SO excited to see what she does with this guy. 😝

This is just some quick concept art I made for a personal project my friend and I are working on to work on some setting design for a scene. I think this took me....maybe 4 hours? Went through about three or four different thumbnails and passed it by my roommate to see if it was what she was looking for since it was a scene that she made. Originally drew the weird spindling wood as just normal overgrowth, but she said she wanted something more abstract and gave me a few refs to pull from so I locked in and eventually settled on this fella. Wanted to go black and white to avoid any muddiness that would come from coloring in the darkness that I imagine this room being in, so enjoy the grayscale~.

Drawing him traditionally and digitally atm. Not really happy with the face, tried drawing his teeth as a flat line to be lazy, but it looked bad when I did the line art so I tried to go over it and now it looks awkward on the top half of his teeth but it's alright. Looks much better on Krita when I changed the whole face but I wanna wait till I finish the entire expression sheet digitally before I post it here :3

In this new age of AI I find it extremely difficult to find the courage to keep creating. Something that I've dreamt of since I was a young tot (making art and writing in the hopes of one day being a part of filmmaking) is now getting whisked away for the sake of ease and simplicity. I know it's a very hot topic right now, but as an artist with big dreams, it's made it heartbreaking to leave social media for a year and a half to improve my skills and practice for my future, only to come back to find that my hopes and dreams are getting snatched away by a robot for the sake of saving time and money. I know a lot of you can probably relate. And I know there are others that can't. And won't. And that's okay.

I recently watched the trailer for Laika's Wildwood movie (super excited for that to come out btw), and it's gotten me to reflect on a lot of this. Why should I pursue any of my passions when AI can do it faster than me practically for free? Should I even continue to post my creations anymore, and why should I? That incredible trailer brought up a lot of uncomfortable questions about my future to me and ultimately it all boiled down to the fact that I exist to make things. Laika lovingly crafts their stories from the heart while most other studios do it only for the money. And that inspires me. I write this all to say that, even with these facts in mind, I'm not giving up. I will still be creating. And while we may live in scary times like these, I exist to pour out my heart and stories into everything that I create. Taking inspiration from things that have happened to me in my own life and turning it into something beautiful. Because that's what the human heart was made to do. Communicate. And mine communicates through my art and my writing. I take pride in my creations. And so should you. I know there will be some people that agree with me and others that don't, but that's why I'm posting this. I'm curious to hear all your thoughts in the comments.
