Eat Your Way Thru...

In Landrum, SC there is a local restaurant that serves fresh local fair Tuesday - Saturday from 7:30AM to 9:00PM.  Its style is cafe/cottage with an equestrian art theme.  It is a cool hangout for brunching or a nice dinner, and if you want a tasty lunch this is your place.  But I did not visit for Lunch or Dinner...the kids were at Grandma’s house and my wife and I had time to enjoy a peaceful breakfast so we headed to Landrum.  

We arrived at Stone Soup at about 8:30AM and were seated immediately.  The light and airy are complemented by the bright decor and the wonderful aroma from the kitchen.

The breakfast menu has muffins, omelets, eggs Benedict and shrimp and grits, to name a few.  My wife ordered the breakfast quesadilla with a side of cheese stone grits (scrambled eggs, cheddar & mozzarella, black beans, salsa and crumbled bacon).  I ordered the southern eggs Benedict (blackened shrimp, applewood smoked bacon, fresh jalapeños, diced tomatoes, poached eggs, avocado, hollandaise sauce on an english muffin).  Both choices were Excellent!

Bread & Chocolate

Last Saturday morning was sunny and 70 degrees, so we decided to walk to Old Town for breakfast. This wonderful bakery and cafe was our breakfast stop.  We sat at one of the outside tables, since we had our 2 dogs with us.  Our breakfast choices included: 

- Potato Latkes topped with sour cream and apple compote

- Birchmermuesilli — B&C’s best seller since 1981

- Ham & Swiss Pfannkuchen served with honey mustard

After a lovely Mother's Day in the National Capitol Region, it was great to have a small pleasant dinner with the family.  Old Town Alexandria offers a wide variety of dining options.  Tonight's pick was Society Fair.  

After driving down S. Washington Street and seeing Society Fair on many occasions, we decided to stop in and check out the establishment that announces their devotion to food.  They offer a bakery, butchery, market, wine bar, demo kitchen, coffee, sandwich shop and more.

My wife and I tried two of their sandwiches, the Walter (smoked turkey, gruyere, bacon, mayo, sweet and sour onions on toasted pullman bread) and the DQMW (braised beef, horseradish sauce, hot pickled leeks on a toasted ciabatta roll).  Wow, both were excellent!  I had a ginger beer and my wife had a sparkling orange mango soda upon suggestion from a staff member.  For dessert, we had the Buttermilk Tart and the Chocolate Cookie Sandwich.
