WITH HER LITTLE HEAD CRADLED BY THE cushion of Bilbo’s lap and her tender soul comforted by the weight of his hand as it rested upon her shoulder, Ari carefully considered his question. What would be the perfect kind of story for this glorious sunny day? What kind of story has a sound to it that is harmonious with the peace of the current moment?

“ a … a happy story, peas. ” Ari replied confidently. While she spoke, she added a few more dandelions to the ever-growing pile she had made on Bilbo’s knee. “ I wou … I would like mmm … would like misser Bibbo’s happy story. I would. ”

📖🍯 OOC. I've officially made it through the first phase of my training ! 🥳 everything so far has basically just been practice for the Real Thing™️, but starting tomorrow, I'm actually going to get some valuable on-the-counter experience 🌼 it's going to be a challenge, but I feel ready for it 💪

@praeteritus-memories sent: "Ari! Happy birthday!" Malleus comes to wake her up today, already presenting her with a cake decorated with candy in the shape of acorns. At the top? An adorable toy chubby frog. Malleus may dislike cake, but for Ari? He'd ensure she'd have the most marvelous birthday cake anyone could ask for. "The day you were born is the most important day to me, and one I am grateful to celebrate with you." Carefully setting the cake aside, Malleus' smile and eyes gaze as warmly as a spring morning for Ari. Fingertips brushing away her brown bangs. "Though I may be fae and you a child of man, we are family. As such, you deserve a birthday most befitting for a Draconia princess." - Malleus @ Ari UwU

AND THE CAKE WAS CERTAINLY AS MARVELOUS AS THEY COME. A bright green color for the icing, the best Pocket Surprise for sprinkles ( which are hopefully more digestible than the real thing ), and the most faithful of all wild companions for the topper. It was a dessert that pulled inspiration from all of Ari’s greatest loves—her Very Favorite Things.

Well, almost all of them.

The child could not rise from her bed with anything smaller than a toothy grin, for the sight of Malleus never failed to fill her with great happiness. Quickly did little Ari move across the bed on all fours, crawling over to her big brother and reclaiming her spot on his lap. There she would listen to Malleus’ kind words—words that filled her whole being with warmth—and rest her head against his chest, enjoying the familiar, comforting rumble of his deep voice. Family. How long has she dreamed of this? How long has she hoped for this? A place to belong—someone to belong to. Arms that would hold her. People that would LOVE her.

This, perhaps, was the greatest gift Ari that had received this year. What more could an orphan possibly wish for?

“ haaa … happy merry birthday, Mallus! ” Ari returned, remembering how returning a greeting was the appropriate thing to do for all holidays. But as her eyes landed on the decorative cake once more, the light in them slightly dimmed. There was no room for doubt; it was a delightful cake, and Ari was eager for a taste of its sweetness. However, even a child’s innate fondness for treats couldn’t quell the sadness that was quickly spreading in Ari’s little heart, for the cake had sparked the recollection of an unfortunate fact …   

“ “ I do … I don’t www … want to have any cake, peas. nnn … no, thank you. " She gently squeezed his arm that was loosely laced around her middle. " ‘c – cause I can’t shhh … can’t share my cake with mmm … with Mallus … cake makes mmm … makes Mallus sad. it does.

“ a … and that mmm … that makes my heart sad. I wa … I wanna shhh … I wanna share with Mallus. I do ... I ... I don't www ... don't wanna Mallus to be alone. nnn ... no, thank you.

" sss ... so I can stay here, " As if to specify where here was, Ari paused her idea to wiggle in Malleus' lap. After the Moment of Wiggles had passed, she rooted herself to her spot again, keeping perfectly still. " a ... and we can lll ... can look at it! t - together! loo ... look at my cake. so mmm ... so Mallus isn't alone. "
