“Unless we both have DBD.”

“Haha, I just looked it up, and DBD isn’t even a real thing!”

“… Yes. I believe that this is one of the first noticeable symptoms of acute DBD,  if Dr Oma is to believed …” 

“I …. Amami… no, Rantaro. Please, as my last gift to you - may I observe you in your final months? Very little is known about Dumb Bitch Disease, and through careful, logic observation told without emotion… perhaps you would help alleviate another’s suffering by clearly demonstrating what lies ahead for them.” 

“I have a great deal of experience witnessing the steady transformation of the soul… It would be my honour to steady you through the course of your journey to the other side.” 

“I don’t know Korekiyo, I’m not sure that’s how I want to spend my last months.”

“But I suppose... it’s for the greater good. It’s the least I can do for all those other people like me.”

“Hmm…? Well. It is true that one often exposes the depths of their devotion upon their death bed. Dying tends to put life in a clearer perspective, would you not agree?” 

“I will… honour you the best I can. But do not fear. You will soon discover that death is not the end - though… unfortunately… they do say that DBD is forever.” 

“I don’t know... I don’t feel like I have a clearer perspective now.”

“My report says it’s terminal. This is the worst case of DBD- sorry, Dumb Bitch Disease- that we’ve ever seen. I’d give you a rough estimate of… hmm, two months to live. There is no known cure.”

“That... that’s not long at all!”

“Hmm… That is unfortunate, but not entirely unexpected news.” 

“Have you prepared a will, Amami? At the very least, perhaps you will disclose to me any religious leanings. Most consider funerals a very serious ritual, after all… not just for the dead, but the living, too.” 

“You think I’m gonna die too?”

“It is serious and you will die.”

“Wait, seriously?”

“I just got back from Dr. Oma’s office and he had some pretty bad news for me.”
