The shelter I work at prepares bats for rabies testing for the health department. This involves sedating + euthanizing the bat and then prepping it for shipping.

We are a comically small shelter so we process bats in the bathroom. The only bathroom in the building.

As a safety precaution my boss only lets staff with a rabies vaccine process bats (especially if they are alive).

FOUR bats (3 of which were definitely alive at arrival) came in for processing today. Since we have had so many staffing changes only myself and one other staff member (other than the boss and vet team) have a rabies vaccine on board. So I had to process all 4 bats. It felt like I spent half my day in the bathroom.

#I've noticed most bats we process are male... i wonder if there is anything to that #maybe males are particularly stupid getting into situations that get them processed (ie going in people's homes)#or perhaps hormonally driven...#i don't go out of my way to check every bat but it is hard to miss their dick and balls #after we process the bats they go to the health department and then get shipped to some lab for testing #my boss took all 4 to the health dep and then they tried to complain about it??? like you sent all 4 of them to US ?#if you dont have fridge space YOU space them out rather than 4 in one day...

The face of a horrible naughty 3 legged boy who has been nothing but a headache since before I took him home who has now popped a stitch AGAIN.

#foster tails #terrible creature i shall never do a leg amp foster AGAIN #he now is not allowed to leave his crate or have ANY toys :(#first time he popped a stitch and got infected and had to be re-sewed #and switched to stronger antibiotics #since he did it AGAIN (minus infection this time tho!) he is out of skin to stretch so he just has to heal it himself tragically #also annoyed he came pre-named because i wanted to name him something y #silly #in relation to his leg #but no he is Tiny Tim.

There is this dog at work that might be an animal control case situation so they may or may not go back to the people but I LOVE HIM and I am not particularly looking to add a second dog and always imagined another puppy next and also a girl nextbut. He's so old and silly and small and SASSY he is so funny I love him.
