June Bug is currently on a steroid with a side effect of increased hunger, I'm compiling an itemized list of her hunger based crimes here:
-tried to ravage the bag of her joint supplements
-chewed through and ate several large bites of a load of bread and a bag of hot dog buns on the counter
-stole freeze dried shrimp treats off the kitchen counter, carried them all the way upstairs and into the spare bedroom, woke me up trying to tear open the package
-tried to eat the dogs food
-attempted to jump onto the breakfast pizza I was making
-started knocking down cans of wet cat food off the shelf (she's done this twice now, several hours apart)
-had regular pizza for dinner and she tried to steal that too
-tried to get into the fridge when I opened it to get a drink
-attempted to jump in the sink for a stray tortellini
-keeps getting into the tin foil recycling. Threw up tin foil onto the bed.
-We turned away like 30 seconds while making dinner and caught her at the stove licking hot dogs IN BOILING WATER
She begs while we eat, naturally. Last night we got Wendy's and she kept trying to crawl into the bag, then kept trying to get onto the side table. After dinner she finally made it onto the side table, took the entire stack of napkins in her mouth, jumped down and then just started ravaging then tearing them apart on the floor.
Today we switch from 2x/day to 1x/day pred and I'm praying her hunger/insanity levels will drop.
Criminal activity continues, she got this spatula from making grilled cheese for dinner last night out of the sink and carried it all the way upstairs to the spare room some time in the night.
Today, just like most days, I got up, fed the inside critters, got my lunch out of the fridge (so i don't forget it when i leave) and my water bottle ready for work and then went to feed the outside animals. Came back in to find June Bug just... Chilling in the kitchen. Next to my sandwich which was ravaged and half eaten through the bag. Which had been in my lunchbox on the counter 🤦♀️
Making deviled eggs for Thanksgiving today. I sat down for a second to wait for my partner to come assess the filling before I put it in the eggs. She grabbed half an egg of the plate and jumped down with it (the thud of her jumping down alerted me) and she started horking it down. Earl came and snatched it from her and swallowed it whole.
Been a minute since I updated Junies crime thread. Not for lack of crimes... but for over abundance.
Most notably:
-stole 2 sandwiches worth (appropriately 1/3 lb) of sloppy deer (sloppy Joe but with deer meat)
-and the pickles on the sloppy deer
-has figured out how to get into the recycling AND garbag
-figured out how to open the breadbox and took a bite (or two) out of every bread we have.
-somehow got into a package of tortillas and dog treats I had apparently not secured from her overnight. Ate so much she was bloated like a tick and refused breakfast (and meds which she loves to eat). I brought her to work with me to keep an eye on her and by afternoon she was sticking her greedy little paws through the bar of the cage to touch wet food so she could lick it off her hands.
-launched herself at me from a chair with absolutely no plan for where she was going to land. Because I was eating a muffin and she wanted it. Made me scream.
-lept in tbe fridge and bit through the packaging of a steak before I could stop her.
-she gets into the garbage basically every night unless I take it out before bed.
Since I have (Temporarily at least) thwarted her garbage can attempts she has broadened her search for food and crime.
She came upstairs and was just... exceptionally greasy. I picked her up. She smelled like the steak leftovers we had for dinner. But... I had rinsed out the Tupperware and closed it back up to leave in the sink until it ran through the dishwasher... she somehow extracted the rubber on the sink drain and was sticking her head INTO THE GARBAGE DISPOSAL to lick out any steak residue.
Been awhile since I updated... mostly repeated criminal activity. Some notable new crimes though:
-broke into the container that holds the churu i use to bribe her to take her inhaler. She was chewing the crap out of them and sucking the juice out.
-stole a frozen pizza roll off my plate (the new ones by bagel bites... like a pizza taquito) and inhaled 1/3 of it before I even realized was was happening
-got into the dishwasher to lick the dirty dishes. This shouldn't even surprise me but at first we thought she was licking clean dishes because the washer malfunctioned and did not clean the dishes.
-tried to eat whipped cream out of the dogs mouth (don't know how she didn't get bit truely. I think he was too surprised by her to react)
-learned how to open the pantry apparently. Overnight got into all the baking goods. A mix of flour/sugar/powdered milk was EVERYWHERE. She definitely ate a lot of powdered milk. I was fine vacuuming it up until I was getting into a case of pop that she spilled a significant amount of powdered milk. And the vacuum somehow punctured the pop can and now there was mountain dew voltage milk in the vacuum and dripping out of it everywhere and also regular non-milk pop everywhere as well.
She's been off oral steroids for months and I fear they permanently altered her brain.
I ALMOST FORGOT. Recently I took home bottle baby kittens for a night (tragic. I hate bottle babies but I could not let them suffer and possibly die overnight) and I was using the pre-made KMR the comes in a can like what you would get a canned vegetable in. I had my baby feeding station set up in my office and June Bug busted in, raced across the room and went directly for the KMR and started chugging it. I had to grab her by the scruff of her neck and rip her off the can to get her to stop. I have never seen more deranged or frantic behavior in my life.
She got into the pantry again.... I had replenished my baking goods BUT I got big sturdy glass jars for storage and all the baking supplies are SAFE. However... she did get into my stash (3 bags...) of crunchy tortilla strip toppings (I can only find them at walmart and half the time they are out... I'm devastated she ripped into every bag). She also tore into a bag of mini marshmallows for some reason.

The shelter I work at prepares bats for rabies testing for the health department. This involves sedating + euthanizing the bat and then prepping it for shipping.
We are a comically small shelter so we process bats in the bathroom. The only bathroom in the building.
As a safety precaution my boss only lets staff with a rabies vaccine process bats (especially if they are alive).
FOUR bats (3 of which were definitely alive at arrival) came in for processing today. Since we have had so many staffing changes only myself and one other staff member (other than the boss and vet team) have a rabies vaccine on board. So I had to process all 4 bats. It felt like I spent half my day in the bathroom.
This whole week is going to be all about seeing cool birds and posing my dog in front of neat stuff
