Make, and Break

Daisy shrugged and turned her phone towards the girl “But look, look how cute you look. It’s not that embarrassing, I swear. Don’t worry though,” She said wtih a wink, “it can be our little secret.” 

“Oh~ Look at the quality. What kind of phone is it? I mean Iphone but which one? Wonder what kind of lens they are using. When you get a new phone can I have this one?” What was the original topic? Oh, right a picture. 

“They did not, but it was a fairly cheap place and they helped me through many drunken cravings and hangovers, so they hold a place in my heart,” he chuckled, taking a drag on his cigarette while Eva launched into another session of food praise. She was such a positive person, and Seb was thankful. It was hard to be in a bad move around her. “Did you ever consider becoming a chef or something? You seem to be unusually interested in all this.” Hell, he owned a restaurant and he wasn’t half as invested in food. “What do you do, anyway?”

“That is very nice of them. They sound like nice people. Were you drunk often? Oh, that was rude, ignore that.” She smiled awkwardly. “No, my mum did want me to take over the bakery but I think she saw that I didn’t have an interest in that. Baking is more of a hobby and something I do to cheer people up, or myself.” Something she did quite often, and some had to wonder which of the two she was cheering up. “I have a degree in robotics and engineering, and I’m working as a mechanic. Though a lot of people think I can do it because I’m a girl, and usually ask for someone else to fix their car or appliance. What do you do?”

“Oh Eva.” Kennedy said when she saw the other girl and giggled. “Come on.” She aid. She walked over to the elevator and pressed the button.

“Huh?” She asked innocently, as she followed her friend. “Are we not going out anymore?”

Eva Lee & Food

Sorting out her skirts as she answered the girl’s question, Waverly spoke simply, “Well, I eat them on very special occasions. But I find if I eat them too often they aren’t as special anymore.” It was mostly the true answer, she didn’t bother explaining the modelling answer, as people rarely respected it. “Why doesn’t Bear eat sweets?” 

“Hm, that’s fair. I only eat strawberry anything when I’m upset. So maybe that would be the equivalent,” Eva pondered. The act of not eating sweets though, that was something she couldn’t even fathom. “Can’t eat them. Pretty normal. Most people can’t eat sweets. Probably shouldn’t. Doctors tell me I shop limited myself, but I can’t help myself. Did you know I wanted to be a doctor? Probably didn’t. I mean how could you. Mum wanted me to run a bakery, but I wanted to study engineering. Very disappointed.”

Waverly felt a urge to mock, an immediate reaction that was beyond her control after years of practice. But the girl seemed to genuinely be… sweet. “Oh no, I can’t eat that kind of stuff.” She said, joining the girl at her table in the park. “But don’t let that stop you from enjoying it. Perhaps your friend Bear is trying to get you to share with them?” 

“Nonsense,” Eva hummed. “Bear doesn’t eat sweets. And now you don’t eat sweets. That’s very sad, or maybe not so sad if you are used to it. I would be sad if I had to stop eating them. They make me feel better when I had a bad day. How come you don’t eat sweets?”

Henry waited, hoping she knew what he was talking about. It shocked him how little she seemed to understand. Fortunately, her expression was a good sign. But she had more questions, how did Henry managed to get himself wrapped up into this? “They would. As for getting caught? I don’t know, I’m not one to do it so I can’t really say.”

“But why? It’s dirty. Isn’t it illegal? They can go to jail. Why would they risk going to jail when they can do....It, in a more private location. Does everyone do it in public? Do you do it in public? How am I suppose to eat cake now without wondering if someone has had...has done it on the table?”

Isn’t what makes it a secret is that I don’t know. I mean, I wouldn’t even know.

Are you a good liar?

I don’t thing lying is a very nice thing to do. It’s better to tel the truth.

Are you a good judge of character?

Bear is always telling me I should be more careful. 

Do you have a strong accent?

I have a New England accent, I think. 

Can you do any other accents other than your own?

“I think so. They’ve always seemed really happy,” she said. “I could never picture either of them with anybody else. That’s just… no.”

Gail laughed. “No, I didn’t steal them – most of these are gifts. The product of several Christmases and birthdays, all right here.”

“That’s very nice. I wondered how my parents stayed together but sometimes I would catch them together slow dancing to Frank Sinatra, them baking together.” Eva smiled.

“Oh, gifts. The person must love you a lot. They all look so expensive. My mum got me magnifying glasses for my birthday once, and I bet the price doesn’t even come close to the price on any of these.”

Sebastian couldn’t really help but notice just how much this girl was talking. When she finally stopped, he quickly reponded before she went off on another tangent. “Well, I very much appreciate the gesture, and I don’t mind walking.” He lit his cigarette, very grateful to fit in a quick little smoke break. “So you lived on top of a bakery? My first apartment was right above an Indian restaurant. Not a bad place, but sometimes you just want to wake up and not smell curry.”

“I did,” she smiled, playing with her fingers. “That sound amazing. Did they give you free food sometimes? I was always allowed to take some of the fresh muffins to school. Though, I can understand not wanting to smell curry all the time, but I don’t think I would mind. I love the smell. Not just curry but all food. All food is good.”
