genuinely i do think it's crazy how this show hit every single mark for no reason other than pure love of the game. like this wasn't a money grab and it didn't think it would be a big success, jacob just read a book he enjoyed and thought huh i think that would be a cool thing to make into a tv show. and then he brought on hudson and connor and they're fresh and passionate and not bogged down by the industry yet and they instantly became best friends and wanted to just have fun bringing these characters to life. and they didn't have a huge budget but they did the most with what they had and everybody took the show seriously and everybody took the book seriously. the cinematographer worked his magic. the music supervisor managed to snag a well-known queer hit and an up and coming new release and old school gems that have been around since the 2000s. it's canadian to the core, built from the ground up. it takes russians and the russian language seriously. it uses sex in such a specific, meaningful way that almost no other show has done thus far, and especially not in a queer context like this. they interlaced every episode with callbacks and parallelism and self-references. they didn't take themselves too seriously. they took everything so seriously. there is love and care baked into the core of this show and it's deeply queer and it doesn't shy away from the horrors of toxic masculinity and hockey culture but it is also, always, a story of joy and love and happiness. and on top of everything, it's almost word for word, the original source material from the book.
like damn it's no wonder this thing has made us all insufferable and become a huge fucking success! so few productions in hollywood are doing it like this!!!

I hope transfems have good boob jokes.
[ID: Running away balloon meme format. In the top panel, a happy grey figure reaches for a yellow circle. The figure is labeled “me” and the circle is labeled “boob jokes.” In the second panel, a large pink figure wraps its arms around the grey figure, making the grey figure alarmed but it does not stop the grey figure from reaching for the yellow circle. The pink figure is labeled “dysphoria,” the grey figure is now labeled “my transmasc ass,” and the yellow circle is still labeled “boob jokes.” End ID]
Successful trans men
Part 2 Part 3
I wish I knew about men like these growing up, I wish I knew that trans men could be successful after a lifetime of never seeing anyone ‘like me’ excelling in life. So here are some trans men - some that you may have heard of, some that you may not - that are successful in a range of careers. Never let being trans hold you back, never think you can’t do something, never think there is not a place for you.
Ben Barres American neurobiologist for Stanford University and advocate for women in science. Barre’s research on the interactions between glial cells and neurons changed the way that we understand the brain and opened up a whole new field of research.

Whittle has been heavily involved in trans activism since joining the Self Help Association for Transsexuals in 1979. Michael D Cohen Actor, teacher and coach. Making his break in award-winning Nickelodeon sitcoms Henry Danger and Danger Force he was the first series regular actor to publicly come out as transgender. Kael McKenzie Canadian judge. Serving in the Canadian Armed Forces for several years, McKenzie later attended law school and and worked as a lawyer before being appointed as a judge to the Provincial Court of Manitoba in 2015.
Shane Ortega Native American former flight engineer in the US army, former marine and professional bodybuilder. Throughout his career Ortega has served in Iraq and Afghanistan in over 400 combat missions. He has a long history of advocating for the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and the recent banning on transgender service members in the US army.

Phillipe Cunningham Elected city councillor for ward 4 Minneapolis and previous special education teacher, Cunningham holds a masters degrees in Organizational Leadership & Civic Engagement and in Police Administration and is passionate about tacking inequalities in his community.
For what it's worth, if you make "all men are trash" jokes, your male friends will not assume you don't mean them. If you say "kill all men", we do assume you mean us, because the word you used is "all". We assume you mean disabled men, oppressed men, trans men, gay men, bisexual men, impoverished men, black men, asian men. All of us. All the male victims, all the boys who have been abused by women, all the men who were never able to get help because of patriarchal toxicity. Everyone.
A friend made that joke in front of me, and as a result, I felt afraid to tell her about the times I'd been assaulted and harassed by women. ("Friend" and "joke" are words I use very loosely.) I knew, despite her claims of progressiveness, that she was a gender essentialist. She would not believe that women could possibly harass or abuse me. I have tried to confide in other friends, and been further abused as a result. She lost a friend that day, because she broke my trust and insulted me. I fought to be a man, and I am still fighting for my gender to be recognised, and that is no less valuable than the fight of a trans woman to have her womanhood validated.
It doesn't matter if you don't "identify" as a TERF. If you bully men for being men, under the guise of fighting misogyny, you're a gender essentialist. Trans men do not choose to be men. Cis men do not choose to be men. Being a man is not inherently bad. Being a woman is not inherently good. Men are abused, more than is widely known, because incidents are under-reported and not believed. Women are abusers too. I don't say "all women are trash", though. Because that would make me a misogynistic gender essentialist, and besides, I just know such a statement is incorrect and vile.
Spreading rhetoric that men=bad and women=good silences male victims. Men like me.
This rhetoric is literally TERF rhetoric. It's what the TERF cause stands for. TERFs abuse trans women because they view trans women as men. TERFs misgender and harass trans men because they view us as deluded women bowing to the patriarchy. Men are inherently bad, so we must be inherently bad for daring to identify as men.
Opposing TERFs isn't just about supporting trans women. JK Rowling tweeted that all people who menstruate are women, and the wider progressive community seemed to forget that this statement was literally targeting inclusive AFAB perspectives. We were disregarded right from the beginning of this fresh identity debate. Radcliffe rebutted with "trans women are women", which was necessary and wonderful, but neglected to mention trans men or transmasculine non-binary people at all.
I'm seeing a worrying trend where mocking and harassing men is considered funny or progressive. Using homophobic slurs to demean gay men, "as a joke". Minimising the struggles of trans men, because surely we have it easier than trans women. Interrupting transmasculine conversations, telling us to shut up.
If you hate TERFs so much, prove it. It's not enough to just throw around slogans and say "all trans people are valid". Engaging with men's issues, trans male oppression, and transmasculine identities is part of progressive feminism.
I do not want women to be supported less. I want innocent men to be supported more, in a genuine and helpful way, that assists in dismantling the patriarchy. I do not want trans women to be supported less. I want trans men to be supported more, and to be listened to. Included in conversations about reproductive health. Comforted when we face violence.
Some TERFs primarily target trans women. Others primarily target trans men. This is a fact. Their mission is multi-faceted, horrific, and insidious. Opposing all aspects of TERF bullshit is key to promoting transgender equity.
Dismantling the myth that men=bad and women=good is central to fighting TERFs. It seems everyone's forgotten that. What is your feminism led by? Equal rights? Or hating all men?
Anti-men activism can never be trans inclusive.
Some AFAB bodies belong to men.
the fact that 2016 was 5 years ago and 2022 is just 4 months away is making my eye twitch…. need a support group for people who can’t process the linear progression of time
Found a dozen eggs in the middle of the woods. Still cold even though it's a hundred degrees outside. Is this a faerie trick?
My coworkers to me this morning: Oh, glad to see you're still alive!
Me: After getting stung by wasps?
Them: No, after eating Bush Eggs.
excuse me tumblr user Draconym? you belong to the Fae now
I didn't eat all twelve eggs because I gave one to my bird; surely that should protect me at least somewhat from being bound by the Fairy Queen?
Everyone's supportive when life gives you lemons but then as soon as the forest starts handing out eggs everybody's a critic
