someone. the sea.

i tighten my grip around the heaviest of my memories as they weigh me down, and i breathe in the people no longer around: like water in my lungs, the feeling burns as i drown.

swimming takes a whole lot of effort and the ocean is everything but kind. its waves keep washing me against the shore and i complain before i realize they’ve helped me break the surface.

there rarely ever is gentleness in the tides of life: there is a forest of kelp wrapped around my ankles and starving sharks ready to bite. for a second i’m angry that they’re kicking me out of the sea, but once i step on the beach, it hits me like a brick that once again i can breathe and that the coldness of salt water has been replaced by the warmth of a sunny sky.
