Make a “deleted scenes” folder and write something that would never make it into the book. A crackfic. A “what if they were roommates” AU. The group chat from hell. This is your WIP’s blooper reel. Let it be silly, chaotic, or wildly off-brand.

Interview your villain like you’re Oprah. Ask the hard-hitting questions. “When did you know you were the drama?” “Do you regret the murder, or just the way you did it?” Bonus points if they lie to your face.

Host a fake awards show for your characters. Categories like “Most Likely to Die for Vibes,” “Worst Emotional Regulation,” “Himbo Energy Supreme,” or “Best Use of a Dramatic Exit.” Write their acceptance speeches. Yes, this counts as writing.

Write a breakup letter… to your inner critic. Be petty. Be dramatic. “Dear Self-Doubt, this isn’t working for me anymore. You bring nothing to the table but anxiety and bad vibes.” Rip it up. Burn it. Tape it to your mirror. Your call.

Create a “writing comfort kit” like you’re a cozy witch. A candle that smells like your WIP. A tea that your characters would drink. A playlist labeled “for writing when I’m one rejection email away from giving up.” This is a ritual now.

Design a fake movie poster or book cover like your story is already famous. Add star ratings, critic quotes, and some pretentious tagline like “One soul. One destiny. No chill.”

Write a scene you’re not ready to write—but just a rough, messy outline version. Not the polished thing. Just the raw emotion. The shape of it. Like sketching the bones of a future punch to the gut. You don’t have to make it perfect. Just open the door.

I’m re-reading the HP series and am currently at the start of Book 3. I might be writing this too soon, but god damn I feel tired for Percy. I have a lot of sympathy for that boy.

I searched online and apparently the internet hates him, but honestly what I see in him is the older child syndrome. Since Bill and Charlie are away, Percy is technically the oldest child in the house now, and I see a boy who’s desperately trying to please his parents, bring honour to himself and his family, and he has to do that while facing constant teasing and bullying from his siblings, especially the twins.

Like we all know Ron feels overshadowed by his siblings, but I think the same can be said for Percy. The twins take up most of the attention in the family and Ron and Ginny can be said to he more cared for because of their young age. I see in Percy a boy who is desperately trying to prove himself — a boy who wants to show he’s more than his poor family — because he wants better. That’s why he pushes himself to be a prefect, get 12 OWLS, and be a Head Boy! Because all these achievements are respectable and I think Percy believes if he gets these, he’s 1) able to make his family proud and 2) is able to improve his family’s reputation, which is a step to breaking free from their current conditions.

We all know the Wesley’s aren’t doing their best financially; they’re known for being poor and get bullied for it. I think Percy is tired of that and wants to have power so he can have a say in the narrative. That’s why he’s so pompous and always “puffing his chest” out. It’s unbearable sometimes, but it’s a mask. He’s trying to act tough. He’s trying to act like he matters, like he’s important, and he’s also getting achievements here and there that are of importance, in hopes that maybe, people *will* see him — and by extension maybe his family — as worthy.

Percy has had a very formal way of speaking since the very first book, it's one of the main indicators that we're supposed to read him as a pompous party pooper, but we don't see him address his father until book 3, when jkr starts setting up the ministry plot:

I find the use of the word "Father" interesting: the most notable person we see use the term in the books is Draco, who is very much posh-coded.

A not insignificant facet of Draco's personality comes from how his elevated status in society has shaped him to be arrogant and dismissive of other people. Draco speaks like a Fancy Boy, with his "Father"s (always capitalised) and his insistence on calling most people (even his friends and housemates) by their last name.

Seeing Percy start to use the type of language we've been accustomed to see from posh boy extraordinaire Draco is jarring, and it primes us to start disliking him. As Percy's brief foray into the Evil side begins (basically From GoF onwards) Percy starts ramping up in his use of "Father":

but at the culmination of his story arc, when Percy is reunited with his family during the battle of Hogwarts, Percy switches to "dad":

This, again, mirrors Draco in that he also changes the way he addresses his father when he's at his most emotional

This is such a great point.

I'd originally included a passage in my post about this very thing put ultimately scrapped it because I felt I was not being coherent enough.

Basically, I'd originally planned to include the fact that the wizarding world is designed to be exclusionary so Percy attempts to fit in by being overly conscious of rules. In that context, I can very easily see Percy adopting the language of his superiors at work and coopting their conservative attitude.

Also, on a meta side, jkr seems to have a very weird attitude towards classism. On the one hand she's manifestly resentful of fancy types and hierarchies but on the other she designed Percy as a critique of those who want to career climb and I really don't get it. That is what I meant when I wrote that Percy is "doing ambition wrong": the books clearly judge Percy for his desire to rise in station and the language jkr had him use is meant to ensure we dislike him. Gross stuff all around.
