The story these garment tell is, “Where we are from”. 

They represent our history, culture, and family background and are inspired by past generations - For Example,what our  ancestors wore in the past.

The show helped tell the  story by each of us saying “Where are we from”using the story from the wax cotton.

First we made a circle scarf.

Then, we made a denim skirt.

After that, we made a shirt out of waxed cotton.

Finally, we prepared for the show and presented it for our parents.

Where I am from, Ghana, Jamaica, New York 

there is the big blue ocean

where i’m from the Joker and Batman play with Star Wars. Pepper steak and rica taste like pineapples and Coca-Cola. 

Were I’m from my grandmother makes sweet treats for the family.

This bird here represents Sankofa. Sankofa  means to go back into the past and carry information  into the future for a good cause.

These garments tell ‘Where We Are From’.

This says that history has come a looooong way because when a shirt is passed down, the person puts their own twist on it.

It also tells where most of us are from.

It could also say that it was passed down from generation to generation(tradition).

We chose denim pieces and stitched them together to make a skirt.

It’s a hot chilie pepper

With rain as hard as hail

The drops coming like a wall of tennis balls 

bouncing hard and loud

on the packed clay earth

My people drowned a little, farmed a lot, and huddled in tight quarters

Where I’m from

There were First People here first

My people came and swept them all away

That land, the land, was once all theirs

Now it’s a napkin corner

With the desert as fringe

Where I’m from 

The first people wove their stories & my people followed

with weavings of their own

Where I’m from

The color pink was got from the prickly pear

And the world over washed in the royal color

Now faded into the dry clay
