i just have to say what i have said all along which is that liam clearly needed help. his behaviour in the last few years was extremely problematic and spoke of someone who was clearly struggling. ofc maya had the right to speak out about what happened and i believe her completely, but others in his life should have tried to get him help and not let him become a meme. his death is symptomatic of how much we love to invisibilise addiction and continuing to make jokes about him is in very poor taste
sitting here at the age of 27 thinking ab the 14 year old me that fell in love with one direction; the poster is still on the wall of my childhood bedroom; and the magic those boys had and the way the world tied them together for eternity and how grateful i've always been for that; and how i imagined them dying decades from now but never today, never when i still look at them and see the boys they were; i thought i had more time to love them all
the thing is that we fans used to beg people all the time back then to please help these kids, no matter what part of the fandom you were in you knew something was up, especially when they were made to perform ill multiple times, and even with broken bones. there was so much wrong with the way one direction was treated by every adult in their life and by the general public. even artists who were in the X factor house with them have spoken out against some of the abuse they had to go through. and for years people either laughed it off or just brushed it aside because “they chose this, they should have known better” when the oldest member was only 18 when they signed contracts! 18! and it just fucking angers me because of course they had to survive the fucking limelight somehow and this doesn’t excuse any behaviors but they make sense in hindsight.
no one helped those boys when it mattered and now Liam is dead and I have no fucking words. This industry needs to do better

God his life is so tragic if this is where it ends... he was supposed to be middle aged someday talking about “yeah I wasn't doing so well back then” not just dead so senselessly and so young without ever having left the depths he's been in since his schooldays. Hopefully he now feels the peace he was never able to find in life.
