when she’d heard that her friend group was having one of their famous get togethers, callie couldn’t resist a night of drinking and reminiscing with everyone. and while they took any excuse they could to party together, the main reason was to celebrate elliot being back in town. the two had always been close in their own special way and saying goodbye to him was harder than she was willing to admit. they’d always tiptoed on the line between friends and something more, always waiting for a sign to tell him how she really felt. but at the time he was leaving she’d been dating someone else, and just like that he was gone. she’d tried to prepare herself for what it would feel like when she walked in and saw him, and the instant butterflies that swarmed in her stomach as soon as he spotted her told her everything she needed to know. she wasn’t over him. she should have known they’d fall into familiar routine, sitting together in their own little bubble and laughing about old times. and for the first time that night, callie feels her smile fall at the mention of her ex-boyfriend. he hadn’t crossed her mind once since she’d heard elliot was back in town, and while she doesn’t regret the breakup in the slightest, there is still a slight pang of hurt that goes through her. “ he’s actually not my boyfriend anymore .” the blonde shrugs, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “ so , not sure where he is tonight . ” she adds, keeping her tone light as she gives him a small smile.
“ why not ? ” elliot questioned, unsure if even he wanted to know but still wanting to let her know he’d hear if she wanted to talk. he couldn’t help the grin that tainted his lips though, when she mentioned the other was no longer in the picture. he always wondered how it’d be be like once he got to see her again...how he’d tell her he was utterly in love with her and even though he tried ( and damn, did he try ) he just couldn't get her off his mind. daydreaming wasn’t something he did often yet his mind just drifted when she was the muse for so many songs he wrote. it was actually intriguing to question if it ever crossed her mind that the first song of his that ever played on the radio was about her. about craving something you can’t have. “ and are you alright ? ”
