It wasn't every day that Willem took Miffy out with him when he went hiking, but due to the fact that she much smarter than the average rabbit or hare by a mile--smarter than most animals even due to her unique situation--he absolutely trusted her judgement.
Not only was she a good girl, but she'd been by his side through a lot ever since he'd received her near Christmas Eve a long time ago.
So, he set Miffy down for a brief moment and paused for some water, watching Miffy hop around curiously. It had been a while since he'd actually taken her outside, so he let her roam a bit longer from simply feeling bad about that and took another drink.
At the sudden sound in a bush a few meters away, however, his gaze flickered towards that near immediately and stilled... only to watch a badger appear--liking looking for food.
Immediately relaxing, Willem turned his gaze back to where he'd last spotted Miffy only to find ... nothing!
Heart leaping into his throat, his grip tightened onto his water bottle as he sprang up, immediately sprinting into the direction that he'd last seen her go. He shouldn't have taken his eyes off of her! While this was a forest and there were dangers, she was even more vulnerable being a small Holland Lop! / @crew-from-capulet

"I'll remeber that next time I buy coffee so I can get you one too." He smiled.
"Double double, two creams, two sugars." He knew that was a lot of stuff in there, but he likes sweet things.
It was a thoughtful gesture from the Canadian, one that Willem could easily repay in kind with pleasure, and so, he committed the other man's order to his memory. It was easy enough to remember after all.
A double double, two creams and sugars each. Honestly, the thought of sweetness nearly made the Dutchman grimace, but his and Matthew's tastes differed and there was nothing wrong with that.
"Thanks--I'll do the same, but otherwise, how have you been?"
"Having trouble keeping up, De Vries?"
Whack!
The smirk in Sadik's voice was very evident as the birdie sailed back over the net to where the tall Dutchman was waiting.
This had to be the longest tennis match of Willem's life. He was sure of it because they'd gained a little audience at the public sporting area they'd decided to play at due to how long they'd been playing.
Sadik, apparently, had no intention to play by halves even though he'd initially asked for a friendly tennis match, but the Dutchman had met him step for step when he realized that the match would be a little more serious than friendly.
The friendly tennis game had become an unexpected workout that had sailed over an hour some time ago, but Willem wasn't ready to quit--not yet. He just had to wipe the smirk off Sadik's face even though he was performing pretty well.
Of course, he had to be tiring, too, and as soon as the tennis ball was back on his side of the court, the Dutchman slammed it back over the net much to the surprise of Sadik who fumbled--hilariously--and missed.
"Having trouble there, Adnan? Looks like I won."
Finally.
My other blog has a ton of AUs, so I'm wondering if I should add one here for this blog. If I do, I'll give it some thought and see what I can come up with.
My mind keeps turning the Legend of the Flying Dutchman around and around., so perhaps something with that. Undead Wim doomed to sail the seas, damned for all eternity because of one hard decision?
It's an interesting thought to say the least. Or maybe like some Merman or magic AU with smoke abilities / smoke elemental instead. There's a lot of options.

Ah, business. It's not only a safe topic, but an expected one— after all, even back in the day the Dutchman was always interested in João's buisness aspects.
"mmm, why am I not surprised that's what you want to talk about?" He muses, leaning back comfortably in his chair as he lights the end of his cigarette. It ignites in a lovely bloom of hot red coal, and addictive smog. "I'd almost accuse you of trying to steal my tourism, but... Well..." He trails off, and unspoken insult in the air.
"Well, I might be headed to São Miguel with Antonio, it's lovely this time of year."
Willem's gaze narrowed just ever so slightly at what he perceived to be an insult to his character as his frosty green gaze stayed settled on the Portuguese man as he awaited his full answer. Well, no--his gaze had shifted to the cigarette hanging between the brunet's lips as the familiar scent of tobacco smoke wafted teasingly underneath his nose.
So, he was hanging out with the Spaniard on one of his own islands--or might be, anyway. It was something of interest, sure, but as the subject included Antonio, the Dutchman decided that it was best steer of saying anything that could be taken negatively. He kept it short.
"Sounds fun."
Switching gears, one large hand reached out to swipe the cigarette in a half-hearted fashion for his insult that he said yet hadn't. If successful, he might even take a generous puff--just to calm down his own sudden craving, of course.

"Hey, I did try! I swear I did!"
Scratching the back of his head lightly, Sadik peered at the Dutchman from behind his sunglasses for a moment before turning to fish his cellphone out of his pocket. Wait, no--maybe it was the other pocket.
"I can show you! Hold on!"
Ah, damn. Shifting onto his other side, his right hand moved to slide into his right pocket of his pants, feeling a bit of relief as his fingertips pressed down against a familiar smoothness. Pulling the small slab out, he quickly undid the lock with a glance from behind his shades and pulled up what he thought was the Dutchman's number. Well--it was what he had saved as the Dutchman's number, anyway, before holding it out for the much taller man to take.
Seeing as Sadik was holding out his phone for him to take, Willem didn't hesitate to take the phone from the older man, but he did hold onto it carefully because these days, cellphones were pretty expensive. Within in the next moment, he was staring down at the screen, first scrutinizing the name ( "Wim Bim" ) before taking a glance at the number itself.
Wim Bim ... really??
"...This isn't my number. You mixed the last two digits. Must be your old age."
Satisfied with the little quip, there was the barest hint of a smirk on the Dutchman's features as he moved to edit the number and switched the digits back into their rightful place. With the right number now in place, he pressed the number to give himself a ring just as a test. Only when it rang did he hand Sadik's phone back to him.

While Willem noted the change in expression--she might be up to something later, huh?--he didn't bring any attention to it as he listened to what she had to say. No official business--if so, Willem would've wanted it handled right away--but pleasure, this time. So, she was playing tourist today then like much of them did when visiting other countries. Despite it all, there were good sights, sounds, and smells to be found no matter where you want--good eats, too--if you kept out an eye for it.
Straightening up a little taller--not that he needed to--as she wrapped up her plans, Willem glanced over at the corner in question before his gaze returned to Resi's face.
"I think I'll pass on this one for now, but I've got some time to spare... unless you want to continue on alone?"

❝ care to join me? ❞
To say that Willem was a bit annoyed was about the jist of it. When people decided that they wanted to come to visit another's country, it was best to call ahead to give the representative in question a head's up so that they could prepare to greet them. It wasn't the law, but it was an unwritten rule between representatives that was usually followed.
The Turk, however, didn't always follow that rule much to the Dutchman's displeasure. Relations weren't bad, so he just wanted to make sure that he actually had the time squared away just in case they were hanging out for a few days or whatever.
"After you--once again--decide not to call ahead, Adnan?" the brunet replied, but seated himself at the outdoor table anyway. "Fine. What's the excuse this time?" Not truly upset, he just wanted the other man to sweat out for a bit before he let up on him. It was only fair. He always did his best to call ahead after all.

Hm? Willem stared for a moment, a rather brief flash of surprise flickering in his eyes as he looked at the Canadian. Had he ... never told him this before? Damn. What a thing to be caught off guard about.
"A little cream, a little sugar," was the brunet's reply. "It's good enough with that." And honestly, sugar was a rather recent addition, actually--as of a few months ago, in fact. "What about you?"

"I've had more than enough time on my hands to decide to take a little trip somewhere, and Iceland just so happened to be it," Willem replied, gaze settling fully on the shorter male. "What tipped the scale more was that there's a good bit being promoted that can be done in Iceland during the summer."
Offering a little smirk--it was a bit amusing, the Dutchman had to admit--he then gave a little shrug. "Couldn't pass up the chance, so I'm here for a while at least, and my first thought was to stop by here."
After he'd called ahead, that is. / starter for @islandiis.
"you can ask me anything you want. i promise I'll answer truthfully except the things i feel like lying about."

"you can ask me anything you want. i promise I'll answer truthfully except the things i feel like lying about."
Seeing as the Portuguese man had opened that door for him, Willem only wondered for a moment if he was fully prepared for the question before getting to what he decided to ask.
"That's fair. Anything interesting coming up for you in the near future as far as events that'll have the locals and tourists settling in to see?" Business as usual, it seemed, but it was an important question and one that Willem thought about at least once per week.
Like for a small starter.

❝ actually we've met before. ❞
Willem didn't doubt it from the way she'd said that. He recognized minor representatives like cities and states just as well as his fellow national representatives immediately, and this one was ... Bavaria, but the details of when they actually met weren't coming to the forefront of the Dutchman's mind, so he decided not to dwell on it for too long.
"I'll take your word for it then," he conceded gracefully before deciding to move on after he shifted away from the street corner he'd been mulling over crossing. "So, what're you here for Amsterdam - if you don't mind me asking?"
