For those who need an explanation, Beyonce made a visual album centered around Black femininity. She highlighted how little we are cherished, respected, treated with dignity, and protected. She, as it has been stated multiple times, basically wrote a love letter to and for Black women. Others can listen in, of course, but this was for us. She wrote it with us in mind. She wanted to heal with us. She needed to come together with her Black sisters and say we deserve to be the focal point and we can be that without having to dilute ourselves. She’s pushing back against white feminism, the “strong Black woman who doesn’t feel pain like other women and isn’t vulnerable” nonsense, dealing with men also broken by generational oppression as their lovers, sisters, daughters, and mothers, and so much other sh** that has nothing to do with y’all and everything to do with us.
